Yes.

So I do remember a couple years ago on Twitter, there was somebody who I guess is like a preservationist of some sort, an archivist or something, and they were talking about like a fully... complete cut of this movie uncolor corrected does exist and apparently this guy got access to it and sent the files to Daniel Pearl to see like hey Do you have any of your leftover like materials or like work from this movie that where you could like do a full sort of like, you know, recolor restoration of this? And Pearl said, I have the capability, right? I have whatever files I need.
GregHOST
35:58
And so it is possible to then go back and recolor this entire film.
GregHOST
36:03
to make it more legible and more you know more akin to what we kind of see in those still photos because it was mostly a post thing where Pearl darkened it as much as he did it was shot dark for sure but not shot dark to the level we see it so I don't think anything ever came of that as of yet but maybe someday we'll see like a bright cut of AVPR and I do think it would do something for this movie's reputation a little bit but Anyway, that's the cast and behind the scenes.

But you're not like, oh, I wish Kelly would have lived, because it's like, who really cares about anybody here? The human stuff is stupid at best and boring at worst, basically, you know? And it really does detract from this whole experience.
GregHOST
119:27
The lighting...
GregHOST
119:29
I appreciate more of what Daniel Pearl was going for now at certain times, but when you get into the actual action, when it's actually Wolf fighting aliens up close and it's shaky and dark and you can't tell what's happening, it's pretty disappointing.
GregHOST
119:44
I mean, there are some cool action shots you get with the whip and stuff, but they're too far and few between for me to, again, actually step up and defend the look of this film.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST

And when you think about the way it's shot, we, we talked about the grittiness, but also just the-- A lot of the people were fresh out of school.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
31:03
Uh, the cinematographer, Daniel Pearl, who is just excellent, he was fresh out of school, and this was his fir-first big piece.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
31:12
And when you think about it, like, it just shows you the, the power of what, you know, a little independent film can do, a student film, just something that, you know, y-you don't need the big Hollywood budget.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
31:24
You just need that realism and what people, you know, are really scared of, and you have to come from within.

Dustin MelbardisHOST

Uh, Michelle, anything else about the cinematography before we, uh, we move on to our superlatives?
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
80:17
Well, there's actually a lot.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
80:18
Um, I think that Daniel Pearl, so he was the cinematographer and he was operating the camera.
Michelle Devorah KahnHOST
80:24
It's such a fascinating story.
Chris RyanHOST
54:25
... and Friedkin, all these people thought it was amazing.
Chris RyanHOST
54:28
Uh, I think Daniel Pearl's cinematography is like easily the best aspect of this movie.
Chris RyanHOST
54:34
It's like, uh, part of it feels like, um, a precursor to like Paris, Texas, or like these like incredible vistas of the Southwest, but some of it feels like documentary style, like handheld.
Chris RyanHOST
54:48
The, the shoestring budget that they made it on, it...

And then every Saturday night at midnight, I'd sort of stay awake late and watch the, you know, late night universal horror movies on the UHF channel from Fort Worth.
Ted NicolaouGUEST
38:33
um so that kind of instilled in me this love of movies and then when i went to university of texas uh basically i went there to become a doctor but i met a guy named daniel pearl who was also kind of on the pre-med track and uh we got to be really good friends we were kind of the only two long-haired kind of hippie type guys in our classes And we got to be really good friends and then started going to like all the film club screenings that were, you know, every week, you know, every night of the week, practically, you could see classic movies around University of Texas.
Ted NicolaouGUEST
39:11
And so I got turned on to some movies that just really spun my head.
Ted NicolaouGUEST
39:17
And at some point, Daniel and I both went, what the hell are we doing? Trying to be doctors? Let's go join the film department.
