Alan MorrisonGUEST
27:27
It takes a while.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
27:28
So the point being is, and so the impact of having those centre-back combination, and Dane Murray is similar.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
27:35
Dane Murray is not a quick, laterally quick player.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
27:39
is that this season Celtic have dropped back about three metres of defensive line on average.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
27:45
So what does that mean? It means that you're not squeezing the game so high.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
31:27
You know, what is going on there in terms of, you know, looking after players.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
31:31
Why would you throw Carter Vickers in on the plastic pitch at Falkirk when he hasn't been playing for weeks? And then, you know, is anyone shocked when in the first two minutes he's not quick enough and gets robbed on halfway and then doesn't react to a cross coming into the box? I mean, these are self-harm issues.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
31:53
Dane Murray, who has his limitations but actually grown into his role to such an extent that I had him as... man of the match in two of the last few games.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
28:58

Alan MorrisonGUEST
29:16
So what does that mean? It means that you're not squeezing the game so high, when the opposition get the ball there's that three metres more of space to transition into, and there's that bigger distance between players, both defensively and on the ball, which makes makes progressing the ball sometimes harder Falkirk actually had the highest defensive line but they very sensibly dropped way back on Sunday because of Celtic's speed in the front line we'll come to the coaching later I'm sure All these things I've outlined, all these things that I've outlined, my point is, why did you concede that goal? So many supporters will go, well, I don't like that player, so I'm going to blame that player.
Alan MorrisonGUEST
29:55
That's what we do as fans.

Alan MorrisonGUEST
33:33
He clearly was, you know, he's got the strength and weakness.
JamieHOST
21:44
When I saw that game, when I saw Carter Vickers was back in the team, I thought okay well Carter Vickers obviously was happy to play but it's very unusual to see Carter Vickers play on a plastic pitch
MellyHOST
21:54
especially when there's a midweek game a home game where you thought surely Carter Vickers plays the midweek game against Dundee United and then Murray's back in for the game on the the AstroTurf at the weekend.
JamieHOST
22:04
Make it make sense.
JamieHOST
22:05
Exactly.
JamieHOST
22:06
And carrying on from that, there's been all this talk from Martin O'Neill, but from us and Celtic fans, it's good that we're getting young players in the side.
JamieHOST
22:14
So why is Scales undroppable? Why can't you put Scales out of the team if all these players are getting a rest, have Murray in there getting minutes beside Carter Vickers, presumably, because Scales makes mistakes constantly.
JamieHOST
22:26
We know that, but he's completely... completely undroppable but surely it's better for Murray's development to be playing alongside an older wiser better Carter Vickers rather than besides Scales and then you can bring Scales back in for Besiktas if that won't work so I just it's all a bit to quote Carter Vickers it's all a bit random
MellyHOST
22:46
Yeah, and you can see the frustration in the players as well, can't you? There's players when they've made a mistake throwing their hands up.
Andy HallidayPANELIST
41:37
Yeah, and I just want to pick up on something you said, Kevin, about the centre-half position.
Andy HallidayPANELIST
41:42
I remember the start of the season, and correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was Sean Maloney that said that Celtic are content with the centre-half position, and I remember saying on the show that that baffled me, because your best centre-half, who's been... terrific for Celtic it's Cameron Carter-Vickers and there's never been a guarantee that Cameron Carter-Vickers sorry can play 15 games in a row never mind complete a season so you're then relying on obviously the other three one of them is Dane Murray who has been hugely untested at 24 year old and the other two in trustee and Liam Scales Celtic fans have never been a fan of so I actually thought the centre half position was almost one of the priority positions going into the summer you're now left with that position and then just to follow on to what Marvin was saying in terms of Celtic off the ball that's actually why there's a clamour for Yang to come back and play it's because what he gives the team off the ball it's not even what he gives the team on the ball
Gordon DuncanHOST
42:31
see just quickly on that and don't be too clever after the event and then nitpick at everything but is there a case to say that actually now would have been the time to just keep Dan Murray in give him a bit of run of games Cameron Carter-Vickers is coming back Celtic never used even when he was in his pomp Celtic it feels like wouldn't risk him on the Astro but now this goes back to what we're saying where the next time when's Dan Murray going to come back in and Ibrook's away or something and then he'll have a tough day inevitably and then he'll be back until he's not good enough was this not the ideal chance to keep him in
Andy HallidayPANELIST
43:04
yeah potentially even then it wouldn't change my opinion on Celtic needing a central defender but I completely take the point given that Cameron Carpenter has been injured he's getting rushed back to play on a surface that he's actually not being advised to play on for the last three, four seasons and he struggled.
Tony HaggertyPANELIST
8:33
We were told every other time Cameron Carter-Vickers, when they played in a plastic pitch, he wouldn't feature because he was susceptible to, you know, supposedly susceptible to succumbing to injury, right? So the excuse that was given for Jota, by the way, an informed Jota, who was starting to hit a bit of a stride, was that he's not playing because they don't want to risk no injury.
Tony HaggertyPANELIST
8:55
Cameron Carter-Vickers is four minutes in, he's committed a mistake, right? Now, we were also told that Dane Murray was starting to play a bit better.
Tony HaggertyPANELIST
9:04
So what's it to be? You can't have one rule for one player and one rule for another.
Tony HaggertyPANELIST
9:08
Again, that lack of preparation, Josh, in a coaching sense.
Paul John DykesHOST
6:47
But for me, he had to get back into that side ASAP.
Paul John DykesHOST
6:51
This is despite Dane Murray performing pretty well, in my view, against Under United.
Paul John DykesHOST
6:55
I've covered the game.
Paul John DykesHOST
6:57
No happy with the goals, again, but in terms of an overall performance, it's all hindsight.
QuinnyPANELIST
9:18
And again, he did come off the bench in the last game.
QuinnyPANELIST
9:20
So...
QuinnyPANELIST
9:21
it depends where he's at and I'm kind of the same as yourself as much as like Dane Murray in the last game you may have seen something a little bit more out of him than what he had in his previous like 20 matches the team needed Vickers to come back into it to just try and you know solidify the defence we're just conceding too many shots and too many goals as a result so In terms of looking back on the game, I've not re-watched the thing, but in terms of Vickers and his inclusion, I'm not too sure.
QuinnyPANELIST
9:43
I know he's at fault for the goal and stuff like that, and the defending was pretty rotten, but I'm not too sure.
Tony HaggertyGUEST
9:56

Tony HaggertyGUEST
10:32
Again, that lack of preparation, Josh, in a coaching sense.
JarrodHOST
35:34
And just one for the Celtic dars out there that you see on Twitter talking him up.
JarrodHOST
35:39
I'm going to have to throw in a certain Dane Murray because he's the second coming of...
JarrodHOST
35:46
Just had a mental blank.
JarrodHOST
35:48
Some crazy good centre-back from...
ShaneHOST
39:06
He has to play.
ShaneHOST
39:07
And to his credit, he's not losing his spot anytime soon, really.
ShaneHOST
39:11
And Dane Murray, obviously, not only is he a good cover, but, yeah, as Lupe said, he's our best centre-back on form.
ShaneHOST
39:18
So he's not going to get loaned out anytime soon.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
66:36
That was a big, big decision by him.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
66:39
And young Dane Murray, you know, has been playing well.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
66:42
He's been doing OK.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
66:43
So Dane Murray is... you know would he have made a difference when playing today Carter Vickers didn't look that comfortable on the pitch that might have been one question you would have on on it because Martin's the guy that's in charge of selecting the team um tactically I don't think he did did much wrong um from a point of view of getting that the only the only thing tactically for me is that I Definitely there's not enough penetration there for me.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
67:10
You know, you have three midfielders.
Pat BonnerPANELIST
67:12
They all want to get on the ball.
DarrenHOST
10:57
Oh my God.
DarrenHOST
10:58
You can fucking argue that Dane Murray's been probably our most reliable centre-half this season and he was dropped today to bring Carter Vickers in and that's how it played out and just in the sort of longer term I think the reason Vickers is still with us is just because of his injury problems and like I don't think you're ever going to make money on him now and it probably will just be a case he'll see his contract and then go Camilo Duran after how I thought he was terrible when he went to centre forward on Wednesday night and I thought the day's the day that you get Kasper Hu in he's got experience on plastic pitches he'll anticipate how the ball's going to bounce probably a lot better and But nah, you go with Duran.
DarrenHOST
11:35
Thought he was awful again that first half.
DarrenHOST
11:38
Misses more chances than Kasper Hu.

13 MINS LATER

AndyHOST
24:51
I've said it before, the team selections are just fucking random.
AndyHOST
24:55
It's as if we just draw names at a hat before the game.
AndyHOST
24:58
The subs are the same, but the team selections itself, if you look at Dane Murray, right, I don't think personally the boy's done anything wrong I don't think he's an amazing centre half but still in terms of his confidence and a bit of continuity at the back you just pull him and put Carter Vickers in straight away Carter Vickers makes an arse of it and they go 1-0 up the midfield again this is just a coaching team and a manager like I don't want to say they don't understand the game right but how is it that everybody else can see that McGregor and Oxlade-Chamberlain is a terrible midfield pairing because there's no legs in it there's no legs whatsoever and there isn't really any great sort of heart and desire in terms of winning the ball back between the pair of them And then the only legs that you've got in midfield is Bauer and you put him in the 10 behind the striker.
AndyHOST
25:47
So all of a sudden we start getting completely overrun.
