In other news this past month, we saw the scandal involving Tones and I clashing with the National Rugby League in Australia, as negotiations completely broke down between the two parties for the NRL Grand Final pre-match entertainment, leading to a massive public standoff.

26:59
Rumours quickly spread throughout social media that the deal imploded because Tones and I flat out refused to perform her mega hit Dance Monkey, a song that she's been openly critical of performing in the past due to the overexposure that it has brought her.
Adam HamptonHOST
27:17
The word was that Tones was set to earn $1 million for the 11-minute set.
Adam HamptonHOST
27:24
However, ARLC chairman Peter Volandis pulled the plug entirely, choosing instead to redirect that cash straight into Grassroots Junior Rugby League.
Adam HamptonHOST
27:38
It was clear from his statements that he was very pissed off about not reaching an agreement and essentially said they don't need an artist like Tones and I and that the game of rugby league is what people come to see anyway.
Adam HamptonHOST
27:52
This was despite previously bragging that they had a better pre-game show booked compared to rival sporting code the AFL, after the NRL previously landed Teddy Swims and the Kid Leroy in the years prior.
Adam HamptonHOST
28:09
Tones and I as management, however, had a completely different opinion on how things went down, claiming it was purely a scheduling conflict with her overseas tour alongside Macklemore and the fact that she was already booked in to perform the night prior at the Daniliqua Newtmuster in New South Wales, where Tones showed she had no problem playing Dance Monkey and as she performed it on the night.
Adam HamptonHOST
28:36
Her management also claimed that Tones never formally agreed to anything or broke any contract.

Australian singer.
Brad KerrHOST

She slash they have a very, in my opinion, annoying song called Dance Monkey.
Brad KerrHOST
4:04
It's like, think one of the more annoying pop songs of the last 20 years.
Brad KerrHOST
4:09
And my child loves it.
Brad KerrHOST
4:12
But, here we go.
Brad KerrHOST
4:14
The Kidz Bop version kind of sands off some of the annoying edges.
Brad KerrHOST
4:18
It must be said, I think the Kidz Bop version... adds a lot like i i will throw that when he's like dance monkey dance like yeah brother let's do i'm queuing up the kids about version and i'm like heck yes this is this is i'd call this music almost palatable wow so i'm gonna shout out kids about there for helping with the tones and i'm sorry tones and i had to talk trash but i think you've made your millions and uh you know what you know respectfully I'm not interested in preserving their feelings on this show.
Brad KerrHOST
4:50
That must be said.

Any indication or clues as yet who might show up?
Saoirse HanleyGUEST
2:36
Well so far I think the only kind of half confirmed was quite surprisingly Tones and I who you might recall from Dance Monkey which is the only song I know by Tones and I but there you did have Hosier posting an Instagram story of the poster earlier today which might indicate something I will say a lot of people selling hats etc outside of the venue I'm seeing a good few kneecap flags on sale So that would maybe be a good turn up.
Saoirse HanleyGUEST
2:56
It's really hard to tell.
Saoirse HanleyGUEST
2:58
But so far, that's where it's leading.
Nicholas PickardGUEST
50:58
It's very, you know, very brave music.
Nicholas PickardGUEST
51:00
I mean, the song that you played at the very beginning, you know, Tones and I, Dance Monkey, you know, that's such a, you know, you know, iconic Australian song, but it sounds like nothing else at the same time.
Nicholas PickardGUEST
51:11
So it's, you know, it's one of the beautiful things about Australian music that we really wanted to bring out in this book, in how diverse and beautiful and rich that history is.
Suzanne HillHOST
51:24
Esther, would you share that analysis in that it is the diversity that makes it Australian almost?

But what do you think about her signing Tones and I? That was a strategic move.
speaker_1HOST
1:05
Totally, Tones and I had that massive hit Dance Monkey, so it makes sense.
speaker_1HOST
1:09
But does that mean she'll focus on already established artists?
speaker_2HOST
1:13
That's interesting, but her comments suggest she wants to develop songwriters locally too.
