If we have an aftershock or another earthquake, we will pause and we'll just end committee.

Councilmember Dan Strauss and the committee were able to carry on, but thousands of people have reported they too felt it through the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network website.

Reports are in from Vashon Island, Tacoma, Seattle's Capitol Hill, Everett, and elsewhere.

The network says the chance of a magnitude 3-plus aftershock in the next week is around 38 percent, but there's a lower chance of stronger quakes to follow.

It hasn't worked in other places.

So the sponsor, Dan Strauss, was saying, you know, why are we not doing something that is practiced everywhere else? Why are we so slow on the uptake? And one reason that they might have preferred to be slow is because in places like San Francisco, they've had to, you know, kind of constantly put off enforcement because there's not enough shelter.

We have one shelter bed for every three unsheltered people in Seattle or in King County.

They don't

The Seattle Firefighters Union, for example, opposes the budget because it is proposing some cuts to their overtime.

Councilmember Dan Strauss has said he's concerned about the amount of cuts, particularly to union jobs within the city.

And there's news from the council's Public Safety Committee, which moved forward today on a plan that would ban RVs without permits from parking overnight on most city streets.
