The first takes quickly started rolling in, and some parts were kind of expected.

Dan Shipper from Every summed up, "It's a big upgrade from 5.6 Sole, with some frustrating habits that keep it from matching Fable at the top end." Dan said that it was the best writing model he'd tried, being very easy to steer and producing very little slop.

He found that it was incredibly good at computer use, clearly a major priority for this model launch, with Dan saying that Astra can, quote, "go for hours at a time using complicated apps to get work done," harkening to something that would be all over X all weekend, and which, by the way, is a good reason to potentially switch to the video version of this if you're just listening.

Dan also pointed out that Astra was incredibly good at making 3D games and visualizations.

This is without taking Astra into consideration, but even so, this is very positive.

And so there's an article that I read.

There's this company every.com, and the, the founder's name is Dan Shipper, which by the way, what a great name for a CEO.

Shipper just ships everything.

I love it.

This is, of course, their Vibe Check series, and their summation of Fable 5.1 is, "Anthropic is so back again." CEO Dan Shipper wrote It's the strongest coding model we've used, but now it's fast, token efficient, and crucially actually speaks like a normal person.

The team at Every found that it was a monster at coding.

Dan said that Kieran Closson rebuilt a working version of one of their products from one prompt, and Fable 5.1 added useful details that he hadn't requested.

I'm not sure that we will get another warning shot before it's too late.

There was some pushback to all of this apocalyptic talk embodied by maybe tech CEO Dan Shipper, who wrote, is the hugging face attack something that we should be taking seriously? Yes.

Is it the first warning shot of a machine takeover? No.

Will issues of this type look tractable, mostly solve problem with proper precautions in six months? Yes, but it won't exactly end.

For many, this one was a big old finally.

Dan Shipper from Every says, "They did it, folks." Santi from Mercado Libre writes, "It was about time.

Very good feature." Vaibhav Sisinity gets at why although this seems like a small feature update, when you combine it with ChatGPT work and other new things like GrokBot, it all adds up to a fairly meaningful inflection.

"AI," he writes, "went from writing text to browsing the web on your behalf in the same month." Or as Enums put it, "Feels like the line between AI assistant and AI operator just got a lot thinner." Sally Stockholm writes, "This feels like a much bigger update than just Claude got a browser.

Okay.

Dan Shipper had an interesting tweet that I don't fucking get.

It says, me, WTF does this response actually mean? And then Fable, I'm dipping nuggets you never heard of into sauces you wouldn't understand.

Every recently announced their first conference called Thesis, and alongside it, they announced a new project called Thesis Statements that will have 100 builders and thinkers write short essays about the future that they envision coming with AI.

Every CEO Dan Shipper put it this way, "We believe there is a bright future for human work after automation, and we believe that there's a small group of humans who know what it looks like because they live the answers every day.

But their ideas are still largely missing from the mainstream discourse about AI.

It's its own project, but as I mentioned, it is connected to their Thesis 27 event, which is happening at the beginning of November.

I believe that they have limited room, but you can apply for the event on their website.

If you're not following Every and Dan Shipper yet, they're always doing interesting things like that, so I highly encourage it.

Mostly, as I said at some point in this show, I'm very excited to see the conversations shifting from big, vague, broad statements to more deeper, more nuanced explanations, if even by nature of the unknowability of the future they do remain broad and vague.
