Sam SchererHOST

Like you had to seek out, you had to...
Sam SchererHOST
36:25
Like Dan Green was like, "I went to competitions to ask these dudes in person, 'How the [laughs] fuck did you get your deadlift so big?'"
Max SchererHOST
36:31
Yeah, where it's like, like the idea of like, like, you know, I don't know, like if lifters presumably if were like averaged out and they have not gotten that much better despite there being all this stuff, right? It's like I wouldn't be like that...
Max SchererHOST
36:40
It, it's not an idea that's like, "Whoa, that's, how is that even possible?" 'Cause I'm like, yeah, people aren't like...
Max SchererHOST
0:00
I am fit.
Max SchererHOST
0:00
[laughs]
Sam SchererGUEST
0:08
[laughs]
Max SchererHOST
0:08
What's up, guys? Welcome back.
Max SchererHOST
0:10
Oh, shit.
Max SchererHOST
0:10
I don't know what I'm supposed to say.
Max SchererHOST
0:11
[laughs] What's up, guys? Welcome back to Large Lads, episode 27.
Max SchererHOST
0:17
I'm not gonna lie, the hiatus this time was my fault.
Max SchererHOST
11:21
Yeah.
Sam SchererGUEST
11:21
And I've said it on the channel a bunch of times, like early on I understood that the difference between me and Dan Green is Dan Green looks like Dan Green, and I don't.
Max SchererHOST
11:28
Yep.
Sam SchererGUEST
11:28
So I'm like, [laughs] "I need to fix this." And-

Sam SchererGUEST
22:55
I was on pace for 600, but [laughs] then I, I saw memes and was like, "What? Sumo is gay? Fuck."
Max SchererHOST
23:01
Yeah.
Sam SchererGUEST
23:01
"I thought Dan Green was cool."
Max SchererHOST
23:03
Yep.
Max SchererHOST
43:48
It's the classic.
Max SchererHOST
43:49
Also Dan Green-
Sam SchererGUEST
43:49
There's definitely a look you can have where you look, your arms look really strong-
Max SchererHOST
43:53
Mm-hmm
Max SchererHOST
32:48
Yeah
Sam SchererGUEST
32:48
... that when I was 16, and I saw a video of Dan Green, I'm like, "Dude, this guy's so fucking cool.
Sam SchererGUEST
32:53
I wanna be like that guy." Like, gave me a sense of direction, kinda the same thing, like you used to watch, like, all these Pete Rubish videos.
Max SchererHOST
32:58
Yeah.
Max SchererHOST
6:20
Just the act of lifting the weight is cool, and whatever that person is doing is probably what they need to do to lift up.
Sam SchererGUEST
6:24
What they need to do to work, that, that gets the best results, right? Yeah, it's like guys like Mike Tuscher, Dan Green, Jesse Norris, very famous low arousal lifters.
Max SchererHOST
6:33
But it's like if Mike T could have gotten that 860 deadlift, he punched himself in the head-
Sam SchererGUEST
6:37
He probably would've
Bald Omni ManGUEST
16:46
So I'm really big in terms of my knowledge base.
Bald Omni ManGUEST
16:50
John Meadows and Dan Green, power lifter.
Bald Omni ManGUEST
16:55
world-renowned bodybuilder rest in peace john meadows isn't with us anymore but when you look at what they do there's no reason why that power lifting type of programming or power building really because dang green is enormous he does a lot of hypertrophy work a lot of bodybuilding work and when you take that type of programming and you just say hey instead of bench press i'm literally just going to plug in weighted dips or weighted pull-ups it works shockingly well And I think in that regard, when it comes to people reaching a plateau, I think they'd be a lot better off in the first place if they were following more foundational programming.
Bald Omni ManGUEST
17:33
What I found is with calisthenics, people treat it like it's this amorphous thing that we have to treat differently.

36 MINS LATER

Daniel VadnalHOST
53:25
I want you to expand on that because if we only do calisthenics, we can run into some symmetry problems where the torso gets hella developed, but then the delts, the arms, they can be lagging.
Daniel VadnalHOST
53:40
How do you like to include that weak link type of stuff into a program? Do you put it at the end of a pull or push workout, or do you prefer having a dedicated arm day or isolation day?
Bald Omni ManGUEST
53:54
I've tried it both ways, and I keep coming back to the way Dan Green and John Meadows lay out their upper-lower programs, where when you do your push, you do your pull, and then you work shoulders and arms.
Bald Omni ManGUEST
54:07
That's pretty much how I do it.
Eric HelmsHOST
15:12
Like when did social media become a thing? So like if we're counting Instagram and YouTube, we're sort of saying, hey, this doesn't happen before 2012, right? What also came out in 2012 was the boom of raw lifting.
Eric HelmsHOST
15:28
But the interesting thing is that raw lifting first peaked with the Dan Green era, the raw unity.
Eric HelmsHOST
15:36
IPF was late to the party.
Eric HelmsHOST
15:38
And the untested raw scene was the first big, big movement of the social media era.

21 MINS LATER

Eric HelmsHOST
36:17
real quick
Ryan LapadatHOST
36:18
yeah
Eric HelmsHOST
36:19
just i think people in the current era forget how much or just weren't even alive or or like on the internet how much of a change the initial raw boom was like Raw Unity, Dan Green, Lilla Bridges, Larry Wheels, all of these power lifters who were in the mid-20 teens, they exploded the scene.
Eric HelmsHOST
36:46
It was also right when social media was really kind of taking off in something similar to its modern form.
Steve DeNoviGUEST
40:10
Three main things.
Steve DeNoviGUEST
40:10
One, everyone saw Dan Green and Mark Bell in the super training videos, and that was the coolest thing ever.
Steve DeNoviGUEST
40:16
Uh, I wouldn't say that was the main appeal, though.
Steve DeNoviGUEST
40:18
That's more of like, "Oh, that's awesome.
