Episode 213: What Did It Look Like When Rennie Conceded? Harry Was There | Lekker Rugby Pod
H
8:43Harry JonesHOST
Um, there were l- there was a lot of emotion, and so I think, you know, I think it's also, um, don't discount the idea of a thing happening in your city and, um, how sometimes a little story for a little boy, for the first time seeing big giant monsters that are gentle and kind and good that you can get your arms around and love, like Siya Kolisi, um, like the guy who put on the, the ball, the game ball, was, uh, a little kid from New York City been playing rugby since he was four or five, and he was picked, uh, to do that.
H
9:17Harry JonesHOST
And imagine, imagine that, that scene, meeting Dan Carter, Siya Kolisi, um, the All Blacks, seeing the haka close up.
H
9:25Harry JonesHOST
So yeah, it's just about telling stories.
H

You don't need to convert 85% of America to rugby for anything good to happen for rugby.
Final Whistle - The Greatest Rivalry Game 4, Springbok Legacy & Dog Shot Of The Week
J
17:55Jim HamiltonHOST
There's been a few golden generations, but that one specifically, you know the team that I'm talking about.
J
17:59Jim HamiltonHOST
You're Dan Carter, you're Ma Nonu, you're Richie McCores, you're Kieran Reeds.
J
18:03Jim HamiltonHOST
Icons of the game, right? So when the All Blacks went back-to-back versus this South Africa team that went back-to-back and that potentially could go for the three-peat.
J
18:12Jim HamiltonHOST
And this is why it is the greatest rivalry, right? Because you've got the two best teams, the two most successful teams in World Cups.
Danny Barrett, USA 7's Legend
D
57:50Danny BarrettGUEST
Um, Zach and I, so yeah, I think learning from some of those guys, Andrew Duratalo, Shalom Suniola, um, guys that have been around the circuit for a long time and knew what was going on and how to perform, but also them having your back, allowing you to make mistakes and not being up your ass straight away is super important for any level of rugby.
D
58:18Danny BarrettGUEST
One of the things I like to say is that it doesn't matter if you're Richard McCaw, Dan Carter, Johnny Wilkinson, some of the best players of all time, every single person who's ever played the game started in the same spot.
D
58:33Danny BarrettGUEST
they didn't know how to play.

And look, I, I think with Beauden that, you know, is he genuinely the best option coming off the bench? What we have lacked seriously is on-the-ground power.

I think I studied like Tom Brady a bit too and in rugby like Dan Carter, Richie McCaw and trying to understand the mindsets of great players and there's a lot of them in basketball that you can really dig your teeth into.

trying this like role playing that I think the author's Galloway he speaks about in the inner game of tennis is like imagine that you were Serena Williams how would she feel when the ball is coming at her and she's about to make a hit, and she would feel confident, and she would feel like she knows exactly where this ball's going, and there'd be no hesitation, and so you kind of, by pretending to be someone else, you quiet the self-won overthinker, and you kind of just channel what the feeling would be like, and how you expect them to feel, and you, I guess, kind of artificially create confidence through that, so I've been trying to pretend that I'm Dan Carter standing behind the kick, and How would he feel in those moments? And so that's something that I've been working on a lot in terms of skill acquisition.
P

That's so cool.
