In the final weeks of 2004, Darryl Dimebag Abbott, the co-founder and lead guitarist of Pantera and one of the most influential heavy metal musicians of his generation, was trying to move forward from the collapse of the band that had defined his career.

Just a few years earlier, Pantera had been one of the most dominant forces in metal, known for its precision, aggression, and the unmistakable chemistry between Dimebag's guitar and his brother Vinnie Paul's drums.

But by late 2004, that era was over.

Internal tensions, particularly between the Abbott brothers and vocalist Phil Anselmo, had fractured the band beyond repair.

What had once been a unified creative force had splintered into resentment, distance, and silence.

Officially, Pantera had gone on hiatus in 2003.

In reality, the breakup was already underway.

The Abbott brothers officially disbanded Pantera in November 2003 after irreconcilable differences between them and Anselmo.

Dimebag Daryl was murdered on stage while performing with him and his brother's band, Damage Plan, in Columbus, Ohio, in December 2004.

He was 38.

Vinnie Paul died of heart failure in Las Vegas in June 2018.

If you didn't know, there's a reason why this has very Dimebag-like style and false harmonics.

This, if you didn't know, is about the December 8, 2004 murder of guitarist Dimebag Darrell, who was shot and killed on stage performing with Damage Plan in Columbus, Ohio.

The song takes an angry, confrontational view of the killing and its aftermath, which I think a lot of people felt at the time, right? Especially, I mean, especially since it was completely filmed and you can still watch it on YouTube to this day.

He reminds me of sometimes, but, um, what a fucking bad-ass song.

And I, um, it just makes me, I've been thinking a lot about dime bag, really wish he was still around.

um he was just so beyond his time honestly you know like i'm just now kind of diving into these songs but i'm hearing them i'm just like damn this sounds so fucking this sounds like something that could have came out this year and i mean it just goes to show how far ahead that dude really was man um but you know obvious reasons very legendary I just can't help but hear so much influence in so many other songs now, even crowbar, you know, I hear, I feel like a lot of dime kind of style riffage.

Dimebag Darrell, the late great Dimebag Darrell, was born in 1966, real name Darrell Lance Abbott.

He was an icon in the heavy metal world because he was the lead guitarist for two great groups, Pantera and Damageplan.

He is also known as being one of the greatest guitar players in metal history.

Unfortunately, he was killed by a crazed fan when the fan jumped up on stage during a performance and killed him and a few other people at the same time.
