Jarom JordanHOST
10:29
I, I just think Legend is going to factor in.
Jarom JordanHOST
10:31
And when you look at the Arizona secondary, losing, uh, Stukes, Johnson, Smith, Dansby, Garnes to the NFL, they lost four picks and a guy that made the 53 as a free agent.
Jarom JordanHOST
10:41
They ha- they still have talent back there with Cole-
Spencer LintonHOST
10:43
Yeah, yet their, yet their staff feels like they're right there

Jarom JordanHOST
34:05
How have they replenished the secondary? How's it looking?
Justin SpearsGUEST
34:09
Yeah, Danny Gonzales said that i- what Arizona did in the secondary last year was historic as far as turning guys into NFL players.
Justin SpearsGUEST
34:17
And really the, the big three that Arizona had to replace was Treyvon Stukes, Genesis Smith, and Dalton Johnson.
Justin SpearsGUEST
34:25
These three players combined to play 6,700 snaps at Arizona.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:10
last year the defensive backfield literally historic i mean literally historic you cannot argue with it all four defensive backs or they had not not all four but four were drafted, and I believe that's the first time that's ever happened.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:24
You're trading Stukes, and who was it? Jennison Smith, Dalton Johnson, Michael Dansby, and I think we've talked to you in the past, and me having my state of Arizona connections.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:35
My first newspaper job was at the Casa Grande Dispatch, and Randy Robbins had gone from Casa Grande down to Arizona and played there and played in the NFL.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:44
So they've had a long line of really good defensive backs.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:16
All four defensive backs, or not all four, but four, were drafted, and I believe that's the first time that's ever happened.
Patrick KinahanHOST
32:24

So they've had a long line of really good defensive backs.
Q MyersHOST
6:11
So trading Stukes ahead of Isaiah Polamal at that free safety spot.
Q MyersHOST
6:16
And then Jeremy Chen at the starting strong safety spot with Dalton Johnson behind him.
Q MyersHOST
6:20
But that's what stood out to me.
Q MyersHOST
6:22
Trading Stukes there at the starting free safety spot, Tonka Hemingway, first team between Max and Adam Butler and, And Fernando Mendoza, by the way, backup quarterback to Kirk Cousins.
David JamesHOST
7:02
All four defensive backs, or they had not, not all four, but four were drafted, and I believe that's the first time that's ever happened.
David JamesHOST
7:11
You had Treyden Stokes, and who was it? Jennison Smith, Dalton Johnson, Michael Dansby, and I think we've talked to you in the past, and me having my State of Arizona connections.
David JamesHOST
7:21
You know, my, my first newspaper job was at the Casa Grande Dispatch, and Randy Robbins had gone from Casa Grande down to Arizona and played there and played in the NFL.
David JamesHOST
7:31
So they've had a long line of really good defensive backs.
David JamesHOST

David JamesHOST
7:17

Eric CohenHOST
10:07
And it's what we thought.
Eric CohenHOST
10:08
Like, we told Danny Gonzales, or, I mean, we asked Danny Gonzales, like, "How do you replace guys that are in the NFL?" By the way, they, they had, uh, they had Dalton Johnson, Treydon Stokes, and, and Genesis Smith came out on the field together.
Shane DaleHOST
10:21
Saw it.
Eric CohenHOST
10:21
Um, and I was thinking, "Well, would've been nice if they were there for the bowl game," but, uh, you know.
Kevin ThomasHOST
6:33
And it's
Damon FairallHOST
6:34
a lot of pressure for a guy that is going to be filling some pretty damn big shoes, right? Like he's stepping into that like Dalton Johnson, Genesis Smith position.
Damon FairallHOST
6:43
I mean, it's a it's that's going to be a, you know, definitely a big spot there on defense that needs to be filled there.
Damon FairallHOST
6:50
So shout out to Quinn Olson.

21 MINS LATER

Damon FairallHOST
27:34
The old line was pretty good, but it wasn't fantastic.
Damon FairallHOST
27:37
And yet Noah Fafita in the big moments in the fourth quarter constantly came through last season.
Damon FairallHOST
27:44
But really, if you were to put a calling card on the team last year, it was Trayden Stukes, Genesis Smith, Dalton Johnson, to a lesser extent, Javion Cole, Michael Dansby, being ballers.
Damon FairallHOST
27:55
And just literally just not allowing any passing attack to beat them until they didn't play against SMU, essentially.
Adam GreenHOST
16:58
If you just look at it, they lost a lot of talent from the defensive backfield, which as a season one, we're like, this is an elite defense, like secondary.
Adam GreenHOST
17:05
When you had a trade in Stukes, a Dalton Johnson, a Genesis Smith, a Michael Dansby, an Aiden Garns, like, wow, that fit together beautifully.
Adam GreenHOST
17:12
And by the end of the season, that group was just ridiculously good.
Adam GreenHOST
17:16
It was a no-fly zone type of situation.

5 MINS LATER

Adam GreenHOST
22:23
He's obviously earned the starting nod here.
Adam GreenHOST
22:26
These are two guys who we don't know.
Adam GreenHOST
22:29
Are they going to be Dalton Johnson and Genesis Smith or Trayden Stukes? Probably not, but can they be competent, capable safeties? Because you don't want them leading in tackles, but you need them to be able to make sure that they are the last line of defense and can make some plays as center fielders on deep balls and all that stuff.
Brett BarryHOST
22:46
Well, Quinn Olsen is fascinating for a couple of reasons because he's an old high school quarterback that I think was pretty successful, which, you know, if he's playing that center fielder kind of free safety type position, if you know how a quarterback is reading the field and therefore you know how to read the quarterback, that's already a leg up and, you know, seems like he's a pretty athletic six, three kind of, kind of guy.
Shane DaleHOST
40:33
Obviously, Arizona's secondary was a highlight of the team last year, and they lost so many talented guys to the NFL.
Shane DaleHOST
40:43
I was impressed with how well the secondary played, especially in the second half against SMU, without those guys, without Dalton Johnson and Traden Stooks.
Shane DaleHOST
40:51
but and Genesis Smith as well.
Shane DaleHOST
40:54
They bring back JV on call.
