Delays to flights at Dublin Airport caused by technical issues affecting UK airspace.

For more on this, I'm joined now by Graeme McQueen from DAA, who operates the airport.

Graeme, what's happening there?

Yeah, a lot of knock on impact here at Dublin and at Cork as well this afternoon because of those issues in the UK.

But it also got me thinking about the impact that these high profile visitors have on the operations in general at Dublin Airport.

So I spoke with media relations manager at DAA, Graham McQueen, about how they handle the day to day running of the airport with the arrival of those special guests.

And if their landing brings with it some excitement from the plane spotters.

Yeah, I think we see people coming to the airport.

My next guest used to run DAA, Dublin and

Cork Airports, before leaving after a very public fallout with the board.

Before that, he was a very senior with Ryanair and before that, Tesco.

Can we get the nastiness out of the way and just ask, it was an unfortunate end to your relationship with DAA.

Look, it's history.

We can't control that.

Unfortunately, we are ahead of the game at Dublin.

As I say, we completed this last year, big investment by DAA in the product.

Other airports are catching up.

In, in terms of investment, well, the reality of it is, you know, Cork Airport doesn't really receive any level of government support.

Cork Airport, uh, you know, fun- is funded via the DAA, which operates Cork and Dublin airports.

So, you know, Dub- DAA has invested significantly over the last number of years, uh, in Cork Airport, and Cork Airport has to justify that level of investment, um, at, at every time.

Uh, and in that regard, I, I think it is really, really important, particularly in the context of, of the challenges at Dublin in terms of airport caps and, and so on, that every opportunity is looked at to see where Cork can, can grow, what routes, um, might be able to operate out of Cork that can support, uh, you know, the, the economy here.

But also from a national perspective, you know, just give that opportunity to expand services out of Cork rather than that over-reliance on Dublin Airport that exists at the moment.

No, but I do wanna apologize to the staff of, uh, Dublin Airport and DAA.
