Welcome to today's Higher Ed Tech Podcast.

I'm Tim Van Norman, the Assistant Director of Technology Services at Irvine Valley College, and Adjunct Professor of Business at Cypress College.

And I'm Brent Warner, Professor of ESL here at IVC.

We both enjoy integrating technology into the classroom, which is what this show is all about.

Right, so I had been going to camps and playing, you know, pitching and doing defense and stuff, and they were like, hey, we really like you at a couple of these camps I went to, but they were like, we just don't have the money for your class.

We've already signed all of those guys, and so I had actually told Cyprus, I had gone to visit some JUCOs in the area, which is still good baseball in Southern California, but I had told the coach at Cyprus, I told the coach at Cypress Junior College, I guess, hey, here I am, the player of the league and one of the best leagues in all of high school baseball in Southern California.

I'll be here next year.

Had good grades, everything.

You know, what are you noticing that's changing that, you know, is what you would like to input as a trustee maybe?

Things I would like to change are support services for students, hiring more counselors, because a lot of the students at Fullerton College and Cypress College are first-generation college students, and they can't go to their parents and say, This situation has come up.

What do I do about it? Where in, you know, 15, 20 years ago, we didn't have as many students like that.

And so we need to step it up and get the counseling staff and other professionals, mental health professionals are another area where we can do better at Fullerton College and Cypress College.

We do now have the new student center on Chapman Avenue.

It's at Chapman and Newell, and there are student services in that building, veteran services, health services, mental health services, and there's also classroom space upstairs in that building.

Internships and things like that? Possibility of internships in the community surrounding Fullerton College.

Yes, very much so.

What do you think they

should? Well, again, housing, because Cyprus actually had a housing plan and they didn't get the final funding from the state.

Well, we're going to revive that and we're going to be ready when the funding is there.

We need to be ready.

They do.

So you create these partnerships.

Honeywell, when we went to Cyprus, Cyprus has that, what do I want to call it, pilot program, if you will, aeronautics program.

Well, Could we partner more with Honeywell so that we can, aside from doing a pilot program and teaching them how to fly, could we also train some of the students to fix the equipment? Right.
