What's happening for you mentally, emotionally, as you're physically recovering? recovering from this this massive injury it never occurred to me that I was never going to skate again I

literally was like I'm going to skate again and in my head I was like take my vitamins do all the things go to therapy they had me at a physiotherapist where they put electrodes on my leg because there was no feeling the muscles couldn't work at all I had a sciatic nerve injury and The hamstrings were severed.

The artery was severed.

They told me right from the get-go, it's going to be at least a year recovery.

But they had been monitoring me.

And in my stubbornness or refusal or denial, I'm not quite sure what it was.

I'm just going to do the thing.

You've already gone through this one major shift and change in your life that is a result of change to your body that is not in your control now you're going through this like what was that narrative for yourself were you always so positive and had this outlook like I can sense from you today or was there a different sort of hill that you had to climb there for yourself

... injury? Okay.

It was.

I thought I would get back to it.

I thought, I, I got up every day.

I was making sure I was taking my vitamins, and I put together this, you know, I'm going to call it a magic potion.

My cousins used to come over and say, "What are in, what's in there? Is it, is it, is it full of Newt's eyes?" Like they would look at it like, like, "What are you doing?" But it was, you know, like protein packed and, you know, had high B vitamins and all that because I was preparing to go back to compete.

And it wasn't until, you know, many months later, because I did have corrective surgery.

It is [laughs] a thousand other tasks that are going to be exhausting that you need to be okay doing in order to get your product to the market.
