It had a lot to do with women and facila, so I prayed Oprah would pick that book.

Verghese wrote Cutting for Stone and then, of course, The Covenant of Water many, many years later.

That book also people had patience for and time for, and it sold extremely well at the same time.

Speaking of an adaptation we haven't seen yet, Covenant of Water.

I read another book that really influenced me.

It was called Cutting for Stone.

I read it many, many, many years ago and it just had an incredible impact on me.

It was written by Abraham Vergesse and One of the things he points out is that you see these tertiary hospitals.

Those helicopter pads are not there to triage the patients.

They're there to move body parts from that hospital into the major hospitals in the city.

And I would not have known that if I hadn't read Cutting for Stone.
