The best of the Navy's flag officers typically go there because you're gonna see some combat.

The current commander at NAVCENT, the Fifth Fleet commander, is, uh, Vice Admiral Kurt Renshaw, and, uh, he was the deputy commander at NAVCENT when I was the vice commander.

His first flag job was to be the deputy commander out there as a brand-new baby one-star.

So the two of us were there together, and the commander was on a trip, so we were acting, the two of us.

And, uh, all of a sudden, Iran starts hanging limpet mines on ships, uh, merchant ships that are going through the area.

Again, this is something that sorta gets lost to history unless you're personally there involved in it.

And I will tell you that Kurt Renshaw was a superb leader as a baby one-star.
