Cummings Elementary School

He's a taxpayer and a parent.

And he is now leading the community coalition to remove Cummings Elementary School from the district's proposed

closure list.

Kevin Jackson, welcome to the show.

The school district is advertising this.

The main priority is to address low enrollment.

That does not apply to Cummings Elementary.

In fact, and I want to be very clear, and we've actually stated this in a lot of our testimonies, we are not trying to compare ourselves to other schools.

There was a general sense that they have not been at the table, that these are decisions that are sort of being made over here, not in smoke-filled rooms anymore, but over here at a different level, and they're not being involved in it.

And again, with Cummings Elementary specifically, because there's a petition going around where they've already got over a thousand signatures, the community is rallying around this.

And then I think one woman was saying she's already gone out and started laying the groundwork for You know, HVAC contractors, you know, all kinds of different businesses that are willing to just donate or at a very low cost and then have community members come in and do the work.

So there doesn't seem to be a lot of creative outside of the box thinking going on with this process right now.
