The Fannistocks moved to Maryland, to the growing community of Cumberland, where they bought a house and a well and sold water to settlers moving west.

I mean, just to say a quick little recap of that is, uh, I was in the band, uh, it is role playing up in Cumberland wise and stuff.

And, you know, we were writing originals in that.

Um, but and it could be the same with any band it just happened to be that was the one i was in at the time but occasionally you know it was very much the van halen thing where i pretty much write all the music you know like ed and then roth would come in and write the lyrics kind of stuff so you know that's that's kind of fairly typical i think for a lot of bands along those lines but uh anyway but there might be an occasional line where i'm going like i'm not really digging that line Right.

Of course, I was a fan, but I also knew how good he was.

So anyway, so I reached out, and we started going ahead and going to his house in Hagerstown-wise and doing that kind of stuff.

Then after a while, I'm in Cumberland, so that's an hour away.

So he said, well, hey, I know you always drive down here and everything for your lessons and stuff.

arguably one of the best two bike trails in the U.S. Usually I see it in the city.

So the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail, it goes 150 miles from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland, depending on which direction you're going.

And I believe about 98 and a half of those miles are in the Laurel Highlands.

And a lot of that is in Somerset County.

which lets, you know, we all know it's very fraught, a lot of pain and trauma, but at the same point in time, it's necessary to talk about that part of our history.

One of the reasons I was attracted to your books and to your work is that my great-grandfather on my mother's side was an African-American cook for the C&O Railroad in Cumberland, Maryland.

Wow.

So he comes, in fact, I still have some of his meat saw and cleaver from the old days.

These I did not receive for more than a year.
