Crystal Ball

On this episode of the Press Rewind Prince Lyrics Podcast, I get into some Good Love by covering the Bright Lights, Big City soundtrack and Crystal Ball released track that was originally intended for Prince's Camille project.

Good Love was recorded in late October and early November 1986 at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, California.

It was listed as the sixth track on what was supposed to be the Camille album, Side one was supposed to be Rebirth of the Flesh, Housequake, Strange Relationship, and Feel You Up.

That's it, after this one.

So after both the Camille project was supposed to be, I don't know, released in either late 86 or early 87.

And then, of course, the triple disc Crystal Ball project morphed into Sign of the Times.

Prince pulled the song back out a year later for inclusion on the Warner Brothers release of the Bright Lights Big City soundtrack.

That film was released in March of 1988, and it starred Michael J.

So once Prince was free from Warner Bros., the amount of music coming out of Paisley Park was almost overwhelming.

First came Crystal Ball in 1998, and this was an enormous project that included previously unreleased material.

And for longtime Prince fans, it was almost like being given access to the vault itself.

Because as we talked about previously in our Sound of the Times episode, Some of the times it was actually supposed to be Crystal Ball.

He shelved that project for later, and it came out in 1998.

But tucked inside Crystal Ball was something particularly important.

It was an acoustic album called The Truth.

And The Truth is one of the most intimate recordings Prince ever made during this period, in my opinion.
