CryptoLocker

So I guess let me walk back and we'll just do a brief summary on that timeline.

So, yes, in that timeline, we did see, you know, I guess the first time we started seeing it being used to encrypt enterprises was the business club with CryptoLocker.

But it wasn't that they were locking down the whole enterprise and using it quite as the same as we see today.

But that was sort of the seed being planted there.

It was fun with the cat and mouse game for a long time.

I remember 2013, September, like it was yesterday, wh- when we saw the first iterations of CryptoLocker, and we're like, "Oh, this is..." It used to be the AV.

This goes back to Geek Squad days where XP antivirus 2012, or you would get on a piece of malware that would pretend to be a fake antivirus saying it had found stuff on your machine, and click here to remove it.

Oh, it wants $200.

And so you people would pay for it, thinking that it was some nice piece of software doing you a favor, when really it was the malware itself throwing you up fake infection alerts and then charging you to, to remove itself.

And then, then CryptoLocker came along, very similar, and, you know, it didn't even, didn't even take crypto back at that time.

It was purely y- like, UCash or MoneyPak, which was like going to Walgreens or Walmart and buying a, a, a little gift card that you would scratch off and then hand over money that way.
