Crush 40

I know I have other things planned as well, but I'm also doing, I'm just doing a lot of stuff because, and I'm like thinking, I'm like, "Yeah, Expo's coming up," and then I'm like, in March, uh, the cr- the Speed of Sound's tour is coming up, so I became a, uh, content creator for that.

I joined that program as well, so I'll be doing stuff as well for, uh, Crush 40 Speed of Sound Tour.

But of course, there's also some Sega things coming up that, yeah, that are exciting.

But I think one of my, definitely one of my plans for next year, I do want to go back to Anime Expo 'cause I went in 2024, and I think they'll have stuff for 2027 for sure because yeah.

The last time that Sega threw one of these for the fans to come to was the 25th anniversary party where they announced Mania and Forces.

It had kiosks and they also had Crush 40 show up and they did a live Sonic Boom reading with Roger Craig Smith and Mike Pollack and everyone involved with that show.

It was very Sonic-y.

And that was also streamed.

Um, so- Very scaled down, um, but it means you get different style of music, different style of arrangements, which is really fun.

Now, the other tour that's going on right now is Johnny Crush 40's legally distinct hedgehog-themed music event called the Speed of Sound Tour, um, in which Johnny Gioeli of Crush 40 and a handful of hired gun musicians are doing Crush 40 tunes.

Um, but that is not really officially sanctioned by Sega.

That's why there's no actual Sonic the Hedgehog imagery in any of the, um, promotional materials.

It's the Speed of Sounds Tour with Johnny Crush 40, um, which is his name as far as I'm concerned.

Um, so the, the Sonic concert, I got to see it in, uh, San Jose, uh, over the weekend.

Great time, lovely venue.

Got to love them.

It's crazy.

The heavy lifting fell to veteran sound director Jin Sun-woo, who failed completely with his band Crush 40.

Yeah.

Probably crushing 40-ounce beers because the game was stepping away from the deep, interconnected, character-specific musical motifs of the adventure series.

He explicitly wanted the soundtrack to shed the atmosphere, slightly moody vibes of Sonic Adventure 2 for a more rock and roll and relentlessly... optimistic crafting the iconic title theme to unify the desperate team campaigns under one cohesive stadium rock vibe that felt distinctly genesis spirit era i would say that each team had their own vocal track which i thought was pretty cool um

uh if you really like those the vocal tracks and all that and i think a lot of fans really do like these tracks the the this Crush 40 era Sonic, people go crazy when you go to the show.

So definitely, obviously, they know what they're doing.
