Cruel Summer

Okay.

So that's funny, because, to me, Venus and Cruel Summer is the only songs that I know by them, that I think.

I might know some other ones.

Yeah.

So they became friends with those guys and were sort of influenced by all that.

And they started getting just enough attention from doing their girl group thing that people started to say, "You know what? You guys could probably help yourselves out if you dressed a little better [laughs] and, like, try to step up your game a little bit.

I mean, come on, no one's taking you seriously, but you guys seem to have something going for you." So just kind of encouraged them a little bit, and they got with a production team, and they'd start co-writing songs with those guys, and that's where Cruel Summer came from.

Hot on the streets and the pavements are burning.

That was a seven-inch single that they had released back in, mm, what, 2012 I believe.

And that has the Bananarama cover of Cruel Summer on the B side.

That was also collected on the Misfits and Mistakes compilation a couple years ago.

Do you remember that one? It is a little bit obscure on the Bananarama spectrum.

It's 1984's Hotline to Heaven, taking off the self-titled second album, which had Robert De Niro's Waiting, you know that one, and Cruel Summer on it too.
