The first Defensive Player of the Week honor for men's basketball went to Huntington wing Keaton Lawson, a freshman out of Columbus, who had 11 rebounds, 5 steals, and a block in his collegiate debut, a win over Governors State.

Penny had a career-high 13 tackles in USF's fifth win in a row.

He collected five solo stops, half a tackle for loss, and forced a fumble in the final minutes to preserve the victory.

when was your both first initial reaction when coach potter was first hired on as like the interior head coach and then you guys won the crossroads league championship after that in that 2024 season and then now the university and also the athletic department decided we're going to hire Nick Potter, the full-time head coach.

So what was both of your initial reactions when Potter got hired?

Yeah, I mean, with you being coming from another university in Georgia, what made you want to jump from down south to clear up here in northern Indiana at Huntington University in the Crossroads League?

To be honest, I wanted something a little bit more different.

Can you just share with listeners a little bit about that and about you?

So the Crossroads League is the league we play in.

Grace College, we're about...

We're Northeast Indiana.

We have those, those power teams, and we have those mid-major teams, but we don't have a lot of low major, and we really don't have any D2s.

There's one Division II in Indianapolis.

So what's been neat about that, Tony, is the Crossroads League and the NAIA has become such a big power where, you know, when we recruit, and we recruit the state of Indiana, there's so many good programs and high school coaches that, you know, not all of them are going to Purdue.

Not all of them are going to Purdue Fort Wayne or Indiana or Notre Dame.

He is the first Boilermaker to win the Big Ten award since quarterback Aidan O'Connell did so in October twenty twenty-two for his performance against Nebraska.

Crossroads League Awards.

Huntington's Abby Gantz, a Woodburn native, was named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week in the Crossroads League after finishing first among collegiate runners at the Ray Bullock Invite hosted by Taylor.

She was eleven seconds clear of her nearest NAIA competitor with a time of twenty-two minutes, twelve seconds, and placed third overall in the one sixty-nine runner field.

Gantz, a former Woodland standout, has won the award twice this season.

Um, the thing is, like, our coach, I think, like, last season, I don't know if it was, like, Shaloms or something, but we did get a huddle camera, and we ...

I mean, just finish up your softball there and then move on to A2 and hopefully conference champs every year.
