Episode 129 - Gaming Opinions We Changed Mind About - Pixel Parents Podcast

in terms of what they can do like they're so behind on the times we don't have HD graphics they don't have you know the perfect online infrastructure voice chat we're still using a c button for a terrible fucking camera you know and that is just that's just Nintendo they just ignore trends for people but they do they do that in such a way that it sort of makes them a lot more like that makes them stronger than anything else you know that separation from playstation xbox pc gaming for example makes them stronger in the long run because you go to nintendo for their games you're not going to playstation for the games that they make for the most part certainly not going to xbox for the games they don't make um nintendo though you're on there to play like a bonanza or an odyssey or games of that ilk you know like a fire emblem or something like that that's coming out like they might not be the best games graphically but they're probably the best experiences you know gameplay wise and certainly sort of industry wise they're definitely some of the best games that you can play so it's certainly part of its strength and they do play to that strength for the most part as well um one other thing that I used to always have a problem with was early access I never really understood that and I think that's probably part of it I used to always view it as almost like a like a scam like it was very much like well you're giving me an unfinished game and why would I pay for the privilege of doing that you know but it's proven kind of massively important for for a lot of these titles like early access titles like things like hades 2 for example was was huge on that um i'm pretty sure there are um there are examples i'm pretty sure it's like slay the spire 2 was was one of the games that were on that as well um that came out in early access um i know that there was some things like shroom and gloom or something like that's coming out path of exile came out in early access and you had to pay for it and they've obviously announced that they're releasing the 1.0 version coming out pretty soon and path of exile 2 sorry so it's it's showing that there is there's reason for it you know like as i say slay the spire 2 i've spoken to people i've seen people online that are playing that game you know religiously and there may be placeholder art and things there as well but it's doing the job and it's showing them what they can do and how they can develop it in the future and stuff and it means that you're not it means that you're not tied to this archaic belief that you have to have the finished article already.

You know, I'm pretty sure, I've not actually played the game yet, but there's a game called Alabaster Dawn that I'm pretty sure is the sequel to CrossCode, but that's come out in early access.

You can play a few... um you can play a few i think it's like 20 to 25 percent of the story um through some of the earlier chapters but they've announced that obviously there's going to be updates as it comes out obviously you know you're paying for the privilege of playing a game in parts but you know that's what you're done with final fantasy 7 remake you know like that's that's what you've done with the remake series so it's you know it is what it is but there's value to early access and it really is worth to kind of have a look at I wouldn't turn my nose up to it as I would before that's maybe because I'm a bit more sort of savvy in the PC gaming things as well because of my Steam Deck it's something I'm playing a lot more so there's maybe something there but certainly for sure it's it's something that i find a lot more i'm less likely to be turned off by it than than not turned on you know if that makes if that makes sense i used to also think that so there was there was a period in time where the mere mention of like a remaster or a remake was almost met with you know like a like a like a like a sad look you know it was never there was never something that you wanted to do or never anything something that you wanted to happen it was a case of people were um people were quite down on it and yeah it was certainly something that over time people sort of softened on for me especially it was like why do we need remakes the originals are there and pre resident evil 2 remake i would have been staunchly on the side of you know it's a lazy way to to re-release a game you know why would you why would we do that because you could play the original But then Resident Evil 2 remake came out and just completely blew that fucking concept out of the water.

It just changed the way that we look at these remakes, I think.

If you haven't played those games and you're a JRPG fan... especially classic JRPGs, those two, and particularly CrossCode, are like the best modern pixel JRPG games I've ever played.
