You know, he was a musical giant, but when he was just a kid, he got hired by Universal to write music for their movies.

So, you know, I mean, Henry Mancini did music for, you know, The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

I mean, he got his chops by quickly writing scores for the Universal films that were being released back in the day.

And so, you know, just the notion of, oh, my God, to get to watch that Abner Costello movie and get to hear early, early Henry Mancini and to realize this guy was great even back when he was 28.

Now they found the blood and a bit of a scale, which is supposed to be from a diplovertebron, which is a real fish, but... not a manfish a mutant as we'll find out the monster itself uh was built up from casts of the metal luna mutant creature from the black lagoon uh the berwick and kevin uh toiled in unbuilt obscurity as contract employees they were making models much like uh working with william castle and jack arnold and of course uh But Westmore didn't like people getting credit for anything, including Millicent Patrick, you know, we find

out

later on.

So this is very similar to the Creature from the Black Lagoon, but not nearly as good.

There is a Blu-ray out, and I would not buy it.

And actually, as I went on reading, um, probably one of my largest collections is the Hulk, so.

And that fit in for me, because I was already a big fan of watching TV shows and stuff when I was a kid, of the replays of King Kong or Godzilla or, uh, Creature from the Black Lagoon, all that kind of stuff I just loved.

But I had to, like...

This was back in the Stone Age, so I had to wait until, like, 2:00 in the morning or 3:00 in the morning, when my local station might play those kind of crazy movies or different things.

But I saw it when I was a kid.

And it's one of those movies like Creature from the Black Lagoon or Nosferatu that I really remember seeing at a young age and having a big impact on me.

And I just really like these old-fashioned horror movies.

I'm a big fan of... movies from like the early 30s even into the 20s in the silent era but horror movies from like the 30s up through say the late late 60s early 70s you know and I and and things do by the 60s they do start to get a little more intense some of the earlier horror movies before the Hays Code could even be a little bit intense but I I just kind of like the old-fashioned approach the sort of the slower approach to horror the You know, the building up of it, the sort of dealing with, you know, a lot of it is often just dealing with characters and dialogue for, you know, quite lengthy periods of time.

Like they had the film and they played it on a projector.

It wasn't like, I don't think it was like movie theater quality, but it was like a smaller projector that they used to show movies at the church.

And Creature from the Black Lagoon, I know I saw on TV because I have very clear memories of watching it on TV.

so you know but again so this was a time when we were just that all that old media was still part of our uh language and i uh and so i think it was very different um and so the fly would have been something that we would have all known like if a movie a movie in the 80s would not have hesitated to reference the fly um you know and i remember movies that did that uh yeah so um So, yeah.
