Creature Features

The roots of the American Scary Project actually go back to these two items.

In 1995, Planet X Magazine, uh, published an interview with Bob Wilkins, my local host for Creature Features in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bob had been off the air for about 20 years at that point, and so it was really, really exciting to see that.

Um, and just about that time, uh, Bob Wilkins had started to release some tapes, old tapes of his show from the '70s.

And so there's the interview, and then there's the Creature Features program clips, and that was all really very exciting.

And then I came across this, the Elena Watson book on TV horror movie hosts, and this was really the foundation in a way.

This was the first, uh, book-length representation of, of the history of TV horror movie hosts, and between those two things, it really kicked my i- individual interest into gear.

And then of course, Hardware Wars.

They had these guys, horror hosts, and they would have these shows.

Creature Feature was a popular one that different TV stations would use.

And there was an older gentleman, and his name was Uncle Ted, and he wore a really tacky suit and a fez, and he hosted a show called And it would show horror movies.

And typically it was universals and cheap B movies, you know, whatever they could get on the easy.
