And then Ozzy's solo followed shortly thereafter.

Uh, I heard Crazy Train for the first time, um, probably within a couple of weeks of that, uh, and that blew my mind with hearing Randy play.

And I went down a fucking rabbit hole at that point.

[laughs] I was, I was hooked, hook, line and sinker.

2003, Canada's Martin Popoff, the greatest and most prolific metal author of all time, polled like 18,000 metal fans and published the results in a book called The 500 Greatest Heavy Metal Songs of All Time.

Angel of Death ranked at number five behind Crazy Train, Ace of Spades, Master of Puppets, and Paranoid.

The next year, a similar poll culminated in a book called The Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time, and Reign in Blood landed at number three behind Maiden's The Number of the Beast and Metallica's Master of Puppets.

But hey, you know, it's a population sampling issue.

You know what I mean? Like, I got my first drum set...

when i was in the seventh grade you know just played like snare drum and all they had to work your way up but uh finally my dad no was that the seventh or the eighth grade might have been the eighth grade whichever it was my dad loaned me like 200 bucks or something for a power sonic kit and like yeah immediately like we had bands i think my first band was called lunatic fringe and we used to we had we had we had like two or three songs and One was Crazy Train.

No, we had two songs.

One was Crazy Train and one was Running with the Devil.

And it was me and two guitar players.

And I remember the way we would practice is we'd play the song and then we'd get to the guitar solo and we'd stop and we'd say, this is where the guitar solo is.

You get Zakk Wylde, and you don't get a Zakk Wylde set.

I guess it was the LSU story where they said, "Oh, they've added two players to their roster, number 104 and 105," and I'm thinking after 60 or so it doesn't matter.

'Cause if you're, if you're that far down a roster, you're either standing there waving a towel to Crazy Train or you're leaving to go somewhere else, man.

I mean, you don't matter.

[laughs] Right?

It just pisses me off, man.

If I hear Crazy Train again or some loser waving a towel, I'm gonna go crazy.
