Craigieburn

So, in Lake Waikaremoana, there is a bald knob.

At Craigieburn in Canterbury, there is nervous knob.

Let's not forget also across the country, Cooper's knob, Scott's knob, Richard's knob, Jim's knob, Bob's knob.

But the worst knob of them all.

Yeah, this is a case of the haves and have-nots [laughs] down here in the South Island when it comes to the ski season.

We reported yesterday that some of the smaller clubby fields like Mount Cheeseman and Craigieburn were closed early for the season.

They say they've had some heavy rainfall, which a lot of us here in the wider Canterbury region experienced on Father's Day, Sunday, um, and that simply means that the snowpack is not good enough to last out the rest of the season.

So some disappointment there.

take my hat off to them, taking me up there, looking after me for year after year after year until I was at our secondary school in Christchurch and I could start to go on the ski week.

So there's club fields around Christchurch and they were, you know, I can remember paying $140 for a week of skiing up at Temple Basin and Cheeseman and Craigieburn.

So that's where I really cut my teeth until I was old enough to drive myself up to Mount Huddle, Porter Heights, some of the commercial ski areas closer to Christchurch and met a few mates and started skiing with them.

And then my then fiance, Karen, she was a skier.

I did field work in the Landsborough.

The Craigieburn was a major part of my study areas.

And then I got into forest ecology.

Did a lot of work in the early time at the university working on West Coast forests.
