Kate GibsonHOST
4:58
I can't do that.
Kate GibsonHOST

There's a horror writer that a lot of folks like named Nick Cutter.
Kate GibsonHOST

Viktor WiltHOST
21:02
But again.

The last book you have read, Lindsay?
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
5:34
It's called The Troop by Nick Cutter.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
5:36
And let me warn everybody, it is quite a ride.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
5:39
It's a horror book.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
6:13
It's October.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
6:14
We got to be scaring ourselves.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
6:15
So The Troop by Nick Cutter will keep you awake at night for sure.
Shane ColmanHOST
6:18
So it's not just your choice of books to write.
AmberHOST
37:32
Yeah, see, you've got that grumbly man voice, too.
DanHOST
37:37
I wanted to read it like I did with Little Heaven, which we covered last season by Nick Cutter.
DanHOST
37:43
It was very much like a, and then he took a shotgun
AmberHOST
37:46
and
Viktor WiltHOST
13:32
It's just weird to read this one right now where everyone has gotten into injecting themselves so they can lose weight.
Viktor WiltHOST
13:40
And [laughs] yeah, what, what happens to, uh, people in this book, The Troop by Nick Cutter [laughs] it gets my brain going like, "Oh, he was ahead of his time.
Viktor WiltHOST
13:55
He should've put this book out r- right now." Right now 'cause if, if you're, uh, one of the people who is using a GLP-1, uh, type of product, I bet this book would really scare you, really scare you if you've been losing weight pretty rapidly [laughs].
Viktor WiltHOST
14:14
It's, it's a pretty gruesome book too.
Michael David WilsonHOST
84:04
There's an enormous push for the writer more and more to be promoting their work and to be actively engaging engaging and so i think it's something a lot of us deal with you know how do we balance getting our work out there and getting interest but also not absolutely destroying our health and productivity and creativity
Marcus KliewerGUEST
84:30
yeah i think um i was just talking with craig davidson uh nick cutter about this and i think his publisher kind of strong-armed him a little bit to get onto social media because of this very thing it's like yeah it does sell books and it's like i i totally get that from a business perspective i think in my case because i still have i'm still posting on there and you know my person that runs it will still send me photos of things or like if somebody sends me a dm i generally don't respond to dm's blanket unless it's like oh this specific person is reaching out for a podcast then i'll be like okay give them my email that kind of thing um so i still have quite a bit of a presence on there it's just kind of filtered through this person that runs it for me so in that case i don't think the publisher even has really noticed my lack of absence on there or whatever but i would say yeah it's hard to know because then i would say oh well if you're self-published then you don't have to worry about as much but no it's almost more important at that point for for self-promotion and everything so uh yeah if somebody if somebody has a person in their life whether it's like a partner or a close friend um yeah it's definitely a very very nice thing to have but if for people that aren't able to have that buffer i would just say really try to like lock down get an app that locks it down to a certain hour of the day there's tons of apps out there that do that and like will be like you can only use it at this time because even if you have the willpower to not look at it while you're writing, you're still using willpower to not look at it.
Marcus KliewerGUEST
86:06
And that pull is draining you.
Marcus KliewerGUEST
86:08
And so just knowing physically, like I couldn't even access it if I wanted to right now, that still helped me.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
53:39
And I love a spooky story.
Lindsey FitzharrisGUEST
53:40
