And I went there and, you know, I'm always scheming my way and how do I, you know, keep my trip going? How do I, you know, make waves? So on.

And, yeah, I found out that there was this anti-nuclear movement in the country that was very strong and people were committed and was making waves.

I suppose I didn't feel it was a thing that should come from any party, that it was better that it came from the members of Sligo County Council.

As a suggestion, it's been sent around to other councils around the country.

It's been referred to.

Uh, I met Julia Mooney, who is, who works with Turfgrass Consulting back in Ireland and across the world as well.

I've kept in touch with Julian and Julia actually was our consulting agronomist at County Sligo, where I worked at last year.

So it's these amazing connections that you make from, from attending all these industry events, be it tournaments or be it, uh, be it the networking or the conferences.

So yeah, I think it's the people you meet are the biggest things from, from that.

But he's the superintendent over at Trump Dunbeg, which has the Irish Open coming up.

So it's these connections.

And these connections always help you as you go through your career because these are people that you can reach out to, which is absolutely key, especially for me making the move from Parkland, Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver over to County Sligo Golf Club in the northwest of Ireland.

When I was a kid, I used to go to a place where my mother grew up on a farm in County Sligo.

And in those years, sort of, you know, 60s, 70s, even into the 80s, I think most farms, certainly around the area that I used to go to, they did also grow vegetables.

They might have had, you know, they might have had sort of...

A Teller of Tales.

Many of the tales in this book were told me by one Paddy Flynn, a little bright-eyed old man who lived in a leaky and one-roomed cabin in the village of Ballysodare, which is, he was wont to say, the most gentle, whereby he meant fairy place, in the whole of County Sligo.

Others hold it, however, but second to Drumcliff and Dromare.

The first time I saw him, he was cooking mushrooms for himself.

Irish chieftains and common folk sometimes offered shelter to these castaways.

We hear stories of a widow from County Sligo hiding a handful of sailors in her cottage, feeding them and giving them water while plotting escape routes.

Conversely, some English soldiers stationed in Dublin took advantage of the situation, capturing men and transporting them to prison hulks for ransom.

There were also reports of skirmishes where local militias pursued Spaniards into forests, killing several in ambushes that later became folklore.

haven't we? Yes, I've been on the rainy side.

The side of the island that is called, that is twinned with the County Sligo in the west of Ireland where I have now, this is my 39th summer spent in the County Sligo.

And in the papers, the papers were very interesting because they were talking about how the rest of Europe was burning.

It tippled down every single day this summer, like every single day.

Well, I was in the burning bit.

Yes.

And in the papers over there, where I was, there was loads in the papers about Sligo.
