Country rock

Uh, I studied under some of the, the, the national champions on, on bluegrass banjo here in the got involved very very early with music and specifically with banjo and then i transferred over to guitar the beatles of course hit america and at 12 years old i did the shift with my older brother and we started a rock band really a folk rock band back in those days and won the battle of the bands contest out at the indiana state fair got a recording contract Got a little hit record, and that kind of went nowhere.

And then our producer, about 1967, said there's this new style coming out of of California called Country Rock, and a group called The Birds, which had pioneered really folk rock, have gotten involved in their country roots.

And you guys, Johnny, you play banjo, and Terry, you're a great 12-string guitarist in the lot.

So why don't you guys explore that? So we did.

And I ended up playing pedal steel and banjo and guitar with a group called Mason Prophet.

And there were about five country rock bands back in those days, the Birds and Poco and the Flying Burrito Brothers and New Writers of the Purple Sage and us.

And we were supposed to be the next big thing in the United States because we could whoop an audience up into a frenzy more than anybody else.

And my brother was offered the moon by some of the great producers out in Los Angeles.

And there seems to be this emergence of Dexter on the Moon Rocks, Treaty Oak, and these rock bands but have the country influence.

What is it like to be coming up in this time where it's like, wow, this niche thing in the scene of alternative rock country is kind of blowing up? What is it like to be a part of that?

It's beautiful.

I mean, everybody, you know, there's enough room for everybody.

So he feels like it's a movement.

And I kind of agree.

I mean, I feel like Outlaw Country, like, and Rock Country are, like, really kind of pushing the boundaries right now.

Well,

honestly, that is where I'm taking the band is more country rock.

And I was raised on classic country.

Yeah.

You know, and while we do do a lot of rock and some blues and things like that for our original shit.

I want to gear us more towards country rock which country rock is nothing more than it's classic rock that's been Reclassified is what it is because you can compare like Skinner 38 special and things like that to Anything that's being put out in country rock now go.
