This is the end result of a long, long fight.

So, Gail Brewer, Councilmember Brewer, let's get specific.

When we talk about 170,000 documents, with even more to come, as I understand it, what kinds of documents are there? Like, have you seen any big revelations of new information yet?

Well, even before they did the website, we were with the attorneys that Ben mentioned in Department of Environmental Protection, and they were released under the Adams administration, and that was mostly indication of toxic air hospitals, but it wasn't anything like a smoking gun, as some would say.

It's about learning from what took place, that we don't do it again, that we set up systems as we've done with other agencies and set up systems that the information comes out and it comes out in real time.

And that will be a legacy to all those that have died post 9-11.

FDNY Chief Joseph Pfeiffer on yesterday's show, and Councilmember Brewer, he was very gracious there in saying the important thing is to learn from this, to set up systems so that the same thing doesn't happen in the future.

But do you agree that this isn't about blame, but only about never repeating what happened in the aftermath? You know, we had listeners yesterday writing in that these past mayors should go to prison, or that rather than asking Mayor Mamdani to stay away from this morning's ceremony, as some critics of his politics have done in a petition, it's all these past mayors who should stay away in shame.

unequivocally, without caveats, without although, without, oh, we need context, without any of that garbage, maybe you shouldn't show up on the day we honor the families who lost their loved ones.

And to that end, coming up in the next hour, New York Councilwoman Vicki Palladino and then Andy McCarthy, former U.S. Attorney, Assistant U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of Manhattan, who tried cases specifically with regard to terrorists in Manhattan.

pick his brain on where we stand right now on this that's coming up but we continue to reflect on last night's critically important and by the way by any measure a very successful enterprise if you want to send out your messages get your voters motivated and sort of set the table with regard to policies, who we are compared to the Democrats, draw a distinction and get some attention.

We need to do some preliminary work.

I appreciate Councilmember Rivera's leadership and interest in this, but we really need to do some preliminary work to make sure that we're using the strategy correctly, and we're not also just thinking of it as a panacea that's appropriate to all of the gun violence in our city, right? So I do have some concerns about the resolution that I know was discussed today at Council, which I think is a kind of a premature, very large investment in an out-of-state organization before we've done that work to really make sure we're doing this methodically.

And this is serious, right? This is not a time for, you know, grandstanding and politicking.

This is life and death.

It's one tool.

Is it too late to yell ouch to the comments of politicking and grandstanding? I mean, I think that didn't give it enough of what it deserves.

So here you have Councilmember Rivera offering an action plan.

She is vying for some space in the budget, which is, you know, being drafted and all that and finalized.
