COSMIC desktop

I mean, not the very, very first, but in the Doobly Diaries run.

But what I hadn't used was a big update that they introduced late last year called Cosmic Desktop.

And while I have messed around a little bit with Cosmic Desktop on Fedora, this is my first time using Pop! OS with Cosmic with a laptop that they made.

And the crux of my video is like, hey, sure it might not be a better hardware experience than the big guys like lenovo and dell and things like that uh and sure it might i mean you know pop os is uh not everybody's cup of tea i would say framework you know uh they you know tries to tries to keep linux distros in mind when it comes to hardware compatibility but i can't think of another company that does both Like they've got the hardware, they make their own distro, they're doing real cool stuff over there.

And so it's fun to check out the full experience.

I don't know.

I think this doesn't really answer the Ubuntu thing, but I quite like what I've seen of the Cosmic Desktop.

I'd quite like to try something new like that.

Um, but that might mean using Pop!_OS.

And even then, you can start to build a graphical interface around that in a way that I think... eliminates a lot of that initial herd.

The Cosmic Desktop, for example, they're trying to blend these two systems together, both having a regular desktop environment and also having tiling, and then trying to make the tiling in a way that is entirely mouse-driven as well.

There's problems with the model.

It's complicated, but I don't think it's as difficult as people initially think it is.

The application is available through Flatpak and can run across multiple Linux distributions, and the link will be in the show notes.

And then our next story is Pop!_OS rolls out its Frosted Glass desktop style for Cosmic.

System76 developers have, for the past number of weeks, been working on developing a Frosted Glass appearance for the Cosmic desktop environment featured on the Pop!_OS Linux distribution.

For Pop!_OS users, this Frosted Glass feature is now available and will become more widespread for other Linux distributions once the next Cosmic release is formally tagged.

System76 CEO Carl Richel shared today that the Frosted Glass option is now available for the Pop!_OS 24.04 users.

Once updated to the latest updates via Settings, Desktop, Appearance, is now a Frosted Glass option under Style.

The Cosmic developers plan to tag their next release next week, and this story actually came out in July, like, right before Bill left for Jamboree, so it's, it's probably well out at this point.

Um, after which, this Frosted Glass feature should propagate to the Cosmic packages on other Linux distributions.
