So this is just Dublin City Council, like Cork City Council have been asked in the past, Cork County Council, I imagine Limerick and Waterford and Galway and places like that.

But for some reason, Dublin City Council announced the numbers as to who's being housed and where they're from.

Is that right?

You know, so like, who are these people? Are they people that just went to these countries, got a passport and came here? You know,

they...

But I have to be fair because I've got an extended list here where it looks at, and I'd love to have one for Cork City Council, don't get me wrong, but the list that I have is from 2025.

And there were on the list 8,706 Irish applicants, right? Yeah.

is an opinion that's as valid as anybody else's and thank you for expressing it now we often focus on things in the city council that go wrong and that don't seem to work for people we do that all the time but cork city council's right sizing scheme is working really well Or at least it was.

The scheme is funded by central government.

It's a way to deal with at least a part of the housing crisis.

Fine Gael councillor Seán O'Callaghan has been telling me more about it.

But he began by explaining, for those of us who mightn't know, what rightsizing actually is.

It's a scheme under which Cork City Council and other local authorities around the country basically facilitate people who are 60 years of age and older to move from their existing home, right, or their existing house, be it a council house or a private home, into age-friendly accommodation, you know, brand new, smaller house, you know, a smaller house, smaller apartment in a complex with other residents of their own age.

These complexes are custom-built, safe, comfortable, accessible, you know, houses or apartments.

We do that all the time.

But Cork City Council's right-sizing scheme is working really well.

Or at least it was.

Despite strict enforcement under Grace's law banning these vehicles from public spaces, residents in Gardaí continue to deal with the threat they pose on our streets.

In a unanimous vote, Cork City councillors backed a motion calling directly on the Minister for Transport.

to introduce a complete nationwide ban on the sale of motorised scramblers to the general public, restricting their purchase solely to licensed sports clubs and motocross events.
