Cook County Jail

Uh, we have two hospitals, uh, and more than a dozen community health centers across the county.

Uh, we're also responsible for the healthcare services at the Cook County Jail.

Uh, and what makes us very, uh, unique, I think, is, uh, that we're also responsible for the public health needs of our suburban Cook residents, about two and a half million people, through our Cook County Department of Public Health team.

Uh, and we're also a payer.

It had a lot of impact on the penalty phase.

That's also the case in which We got word from the Cook County Jail that the Cook County Jail wanted to meet with the prosecutor.

Members of the, representative of the Cook County Jail wanted to meet with the prosecutors of the case.

Why? We don't know.

But the two guys who were prosecuting it, Mike Kane and Rich Traynor, who were prosecuting the case, asked me if I wanted to go along.

I said, sure.

So I go on the meeting.

And what the Cook County jail officials are telling us is that all their snitches in the jail were saying that the Latin kings have put out a hit on the prosecutors and the judge in the case.

On this day in 1970, BB King played for 2,000 inmates at the Cook County Jail.

There is massive and sensational coverage of the crime.

And six weeks later in May, the trial ends and she is acquitted.

Okay, let's go ahead and meet them.

Now, in the show, there are six, but their actual number and their prominence is quite different from that.

The Cook County Jail at the time had three floors that were the women's jails, and reporters had free access to them, and they could stage photos with the inmates.

There were, in fact, six reporters who would visit Beulah her first morning in the Cook County Jail, and there were common areas for card tables and lots of newspapers, and you could have catered meals sent up to you.

Which is huge, yeah.

So yeah, I think what Cook County Jail is our previous cherries to save is the largest mental health treatment facility in the United States, right? Because that's where a lot of people end up.
