Contract with America

Yeah.

You know, "Here's the Contract with America.

Here are the goals." Bob never seemed to have that capacity.

And so this Venus retrograde in Scorpio in 19- 1994 was not long after Bill Clinton was elected.

There was what's called the Republican Revolution, which was led by Newt Gingrich and his so-called Contract with America, and what happened is they flipped 54 seats, uh, that, that ended the, the Democratic streak that had been lasting for like 40 years at that point, since 1954, and this, um, sweeping wave sort of ushered in this new aggressively partisan and sort of confrontational era of modern politics where usually like most historians at this point or most political commentators look back to the 1994 election as being part of where that shift took place.

Um, similarly in 2010, you know, it's like Obama had just been elected in 2008, so then 2010 is the f- is the midterm that takes place after that, and this was the Venus retrograde in Scorpio in the later part of 2010, and what happened is that the Tea Party movement had really taken off, especially early that year, and the midterms had this massive wave where there was a 63-seat Republican swing in, in Republicans' favor.

So that was actually historically the largest single legislative swing since 1948, um, which even President Obama at the time, he, he commented on it and he said that they had taken a real shellacking basically at the, at the polls in terms of the pushback and the number of Republicans that were brought into office at that time which then really ground to a halt a lot of his ability to push through new legislation aft- after that time.

Um, and but it was very conversational, but also it- there are so many deep issues.

Two things that really stood out to me in this election, and in your podcast series, which I've watched, it's very reminiscent of Renewing American Civilization, which is a series of educational tapes for candidates that led to and culminated in the Contract With America.

And it was, it, very reminiscent of that, 'cause I lived that with you as a local radio host that emceed your events in Atlanta.

It is a roadmap to victory.

It's much deeper than the surface stuff that we talk about on the air.

And more importantly, he outlines the fi- the intellectual firepower he brought to the Contract with America and where it began.

Because it started out with a series of videotapes, uh, from a group known as GOPAC at the time, and, uh, called Renewing American Civilization.

And in these tapes, it was the inteloc- intellectual foundation for what then ultimately evolved into the Contract with America.

And it was just genius on his part.

Remember, Republicans, they'd been living in the wilderness.

Well, as I've been going around here, like you, in Dallas, the number of candidates who come up to me and say that they're using it in their campaigns, uh, they're sharing it with all their campaign volunteers, uh, it's clearly having an impact, and that's why I did it.

I mean, we, we did prove in 1994 with the Contract with America, and then in '96 when we became the first reelected majority since 1928, we had some sense of what works.

Uh, and I put all of that together in these five podcasts because I think we're in the most important off-year election in modern times, certainly in over a century.

And, uh, I think it's gonna come down to can we win the argument that they are just absolutely, totally unacceptable, and can we convince people that in fact, um, they have to go out, they have to, have to vote, uh, they have to block these, uh, big government socialists from seizing power, and they have to give the country a chance, uh, to keep moving forward.

It's places where people have given up, uh, on the political process and just refuse to come out and vote, and that's where these hardened folks have done, y- you know, really well in places like New York City.

But I, I think anybody who stays home is a vote for, uh, the hard left, and we have to make that clear that to fail to vote is to allow these people to take over your country and change it in profound, fundamental ways.

When I went up to, it was, it was election day, and I had moved from Huntsville, Alabama in 1992 and watched, watched the entire evolution of the contract with America predicated on renewing American civilization, and it was election day, 1994.

And I w- it was at the Cobb Galleria, and I was MCing your event that night.

As Reuters News reports, the theme of this GOP convention is Contrast for America.

That is a play, of course, in the 1994 slogan by Newt Gingrich of Contract with America.

But this time, the Republicans say that they will contrast the Trump administration with the politics, the politicians, and the wacko policies of Democrats and their communist comrades that are now in office from Seattle to New York City.

Although I should say, and to be clear, the White House is also saying that they will celebrate their record of promises made and promises kept with a bunch of good news on the border, the economy, prescription drug prices and improving affordability and things like housing.

Those are kind of the facts.

I mean, the, the most interesting anecdote, like the two things I knew about '94 were big wave and Contract with America, and the Contract with America was unveiled.

I want everyone listening to this to guess.

Bill might know, so I'm not going to quiz him.

When do you think it was? The answer: September 27th, 1994, not three.

Right.

The Contract with America came out, like, right now, like three weeks before the election, which goes to show you the Democrats could still do something, and maybe this is a little bit of, I don't know.

To my, my view just learning that now as I look at it, and it, and it just made me completely change my whole thinking about Gingrich and the strategy, and it was just like Gingrich might have just, like, jumped in front of a parade-
