Continental Championship Wrestling

We are doing a retro TV review today, and I've got this one off of YouTube.

Going to Continental Wrestling from May the 28th, 1988.

This comes from the fantastic Armstrong Alley account.

Certainly suggest you follow that account.

And you can watch this episode as well.

Now, I got to tell you, this is my promotion.

I grew up a fan of Southeastern wrestling and the Continental wrestling.

And Continental wrestling had seen better days at this point.

I keep wanting to call him B-Ware, but he's not that yet.

Coco Ware from Continental Wrestling.

This takes place, I believe it's November 18th, 1985.

While

Not one bit.

Yeah.

Yeah, so Travis will talk about it too when we get to the match, but the footage for Continental Wrestling, not great.

It has not stood the test of time.

Welcome to Southeastern Championship Wrestling.

Innovators in television wrestling, with split screen, instant replay, and other technical firsts.

The program voted number one by the Wrestling Writers Federation.

Adams would report to prison no later than November 10th.

Dave did not like Kevin Sullivan's new team of the headhunters in Continental, saying one of them was shorter than Kevin Sullivan and the other one was smaller than Gordon Sully.

Dave reports the obvious, that the recent babyface turn of Nikita Kolov was necessary due to the loss of Magnum TA as the top of the card babyface.

Despite only recently returning to the WWF, superstar Billy Graham is off of shows due to increasing health problems.

He will ultimately have hip replacement surgery that is graphically shown on television, be switched to a manager for Don Morocco, then to a TV color commentator job, which he did poorly at and ultimately was let go, leading to more bitterness between he and Vince McMahon.

Despite being purchased by Jim Crockett Promotions, Central State's business continues to plummet, with recent shows drawing less than 400 people.

Now also, here on the third, Continental Wrestling down in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Bible Auditorium, sees Rip Rogers beat Adrian Street in a no-DQ match to win the Southeastern title.

We go just up the road to Memphis to Jerry Jarrett's CWA promotion.

And Fritz Von Erich, yes, old man Fritz, beat Abdul Luthor by DQ in a submission match.

What submission move is Abdul going to whip out for real? Thanksgiving, Continental Wrestling, Battle Auditorium, attendance 5,500.

That's a sellout at Battle.

U.S.

He's up in Crockett right now.

Interesting stuff.

All right, November the 28th, 1986, Continental Wrestling goes over to Oxford, Alabama, over near the Georgia line to see Wendell Cooley beat Tony Anthony for the Alabama title.

I wonder why they didn't put that on their Thanksgiving show.

Gibson made his wrestling debut in 1970 working Alabama, blah, blah, blah.

Gibson trained with his brother, Robert Gibson, who made his debut in 1977, and teamed together winning many tag team titles, mainly in Continental Wrestling, Tennessee.

Uh, da, da, da.

In 1982, Gibson was, uh, in a car accident and spent 39 days in intensive care.

So let's go to the clip.

For the past two weeks in the Continental Wrestling Federation, there have been rumors of a serious injury suffered by Eddie Gilbert.

Oh, really? After researching this situation extensively, we know that Eddie Gilbert has spent some time recently in Carraway Methodist Hospital here in Birmingham undergoing tests.

And I think at this time, Eddie came to Joe and I before the show.

Absolutely.

Okay.

Talk to the wrestling fans of the Continental Wrestling Federation.

And without any further ado, I think you know the story.
