Kim KlacikHOST
9:37
So here I thought, okay, we have a chance.
Kim KlacikHOST
9:39
We have a shot, and I'm, I'm thinking, maybe we'll have enough people that will not want to amend the Maryland Constitution to draw districts where it just gives Democrats an advantage every single time.
Kim KlacikHOST
9:51
I thought may- maybe there's a silver lining here.
Kim KlacikHOST
9:54
Maybe we have enough people in the state that want common sense to prevail, and they don't want districts drawn where you've got Baltimore City in the same district with, like, Eastern Shore.

18 MINS LATER

Kim KlacikHOST
27:41
That's the problem.
Kim KlacikHOST
27:42
Right now, we're trying to fight against Question 3 that is going to redraw districts in a way that a, a Republican could never go to Congress ever again.
Kim KlacikHOST
27:50
They want to amend the Maryland Constitution.
Kim KlacikHOST
27:52
It is a, a terrible thing to do.
Mileah KromerGUEST
15:30
It's a response to what he kicked off in Texas back in twenty-twenty-five.
Mileah KromerGUEST
15:36
The anti-folks will make the argument that gerrymandering is wrong, and we don't wanna see all the restraints, all the guardrails taken out of the Maryland Constitution.
Mileah KromerGUEST
15:45
And I mean, listen, and Maryland doesn't get any awards for being an ungerrymandered state.
Mileah KromerGUEST
15:50
[chuckles] This is-
speaker_6SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
33:37
It's like they're trying to confuse you.
speaker_6SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
33:40
And providing that nothing in the Maryland Constitution provides applicable criteria for the boundaries of a congressional districting plan.
speaker_6SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
33:47
[laughs]
Bryan NehmanHOST
33:47
Those are regular Marylanders reading question three, which will be on the ballot that you will receive in the mail if you haven't already, right? Does it come out today?

6 MINS LATER

Bryan NehmanHOST
40:11
I'll read it for people.
C4HOST
40:12
Go ahead.
Bryan NehmanHOST
40:13
It says, "For the purpose of clarifying that certain requirements apply only to districts for the election of members of the Senate of Maryland and the House of Delegates, authorizing the General Assembly to grant original jurisdiction to the Supreme Court of Maryland to review the congressional districting plan of the State, and providing that nothing in the Maryland Constitution provides applicable criteria for the boundaries of congressional districting plan."
C4HOST
40:37
Tell me what that means.
Joe FrancavigliaHOST
2:06
So I'm going to read the language because ballot language can be incredibly legal and technical here.
Joe FrancavigliaHOST
2:11
So it says, for the purpose of clarifying that certain requirements apply only to districts for the election of members of the Senate of Maryland and the House of Delegates, authorizing the General Assembly to grant original jurisdiction to the Supreme Court of Maryland to review the congressional redistricting plan of the state, and providing that nothing in the Maryland Constitution provides applicable criteria for the boundaries of congressional jurisdiction.
Joe FrancavigliaHOST
2:35
redistricting plan so it sounds like there's three parts and you tell me if i have any of this wrong number one does nothing for state legislative districts how we operate there is how we will continue to always operate number two if someone wants to challenge a congressional redistricting plan spoiler alert they do every single time no matter what it goes straight to the supreme court so they can't judge shop and go find a friendly judge and say you know overturn the whole map it has to go to the supreme court which it will go to anyways and then third it essentially says maryland is on the same level playing field as the rest of the nation when it comes to congressional redistricting right
Clarence LamGUEST
3:11
do i have that right that is correct and that allows us on in whole to be able to do redistricting safely in the future there is no new maps just to be clear for folks no new maps is part of this but we want to be able to lay the groundwork if we choose to go forward with redistricting mid-cycle in the future, that we can safely do so and also recognize that any appeals to that will go straight to the Supreme Court.
Karrington AndersonHOST
25:38
Let's hear it.
Kevin CanaleHOST
25:39
All right, so I'm just going to read this to you both, okay? Ready? For the purpose of clarifying that certain requirements apply only to districts for the election of members of the Senate of Maryland and the House of Delegates, semicolon, authorizing the General Assembly to grant original jurisdiction in the Supreme Court of Maryland to review the congressional districting plan of the state, semicolon, and providing that nothing in the Maryland Constitution provides applicable criteria for the boundaries of a congressional district being planned.
Michael SandersonHOST
26:06
Okay.
Michael SandersonHOST
26:07
I don't know.
