Connor Zary

Like, w- when we're talking about guys who have kind of that upward mobility, and it, it's why we talk about guys who are under pressure.

Like, this is, this is where the pressure is on, like, Zary and Sharangovich and stuff like that.

Like, it'll come in March and, and, uh, maybe April with the, the college kids, depending on who all comes up and how the season goes, obviously.

But we're anticipating a slew of guys coming in.

Right

...

Zary has done.

So, like, he is one of the guys who has a lot of that upward mobility-

I've got for you Connor Zary, Ryan Strom, Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee.

One and a half over under remaining on the trade deadline, or remaining on the roster after the trade deadline.

Over.

[laughs] Um, besides that, like, I, I feel like Backlund with Feraby, that just feels like the n- the, the Blake Coleman you have at home.

Um, but then who plays with them? And where does everyone else go in? If Zary continues to have some of the struggles that he had from last season, can a, a Klapka take his spot? Can a Pospisil take his spot? Where does Sharon Govich fit in this? So I feel like at forward, and tell me if you disagree with this, John, but I feel like at forward, the pieces are all kind of there.

It's just a matter, matter of where they all fit into the puzzle.

Mm-hmm.

Like, there's a lot of questions, like you mentioned Sharon Govich there.

I talked about him on my other show about, I d- I did my lines and I couldn't find a spot for Sharon Govich.

So what is he and where does he fit in this whole thing? The Flames had it out there that Connor Zary could have been had via trade.

So what is he, what is his future with the Calgary Flames? He's got to figure that out.

They're playing.

um so yeah that's i think that's kind of how i would approach it and you know an idea would be you know on those road games could you bring like a guy like connor zary and play him as the one c for two straight games and see what he looks like could you put jaguar sharangovich on a top line could you put siplikov in a position to succeed like Those are the kind of guys that I would like to see in the top six for the road games, just so you can give them an opportunity to show, hey, maybe here's some improvements I made over the offseason, or I've gotten bigger, stronger, faster, and I want to show it.

I think that would be a good way to do it rather than have them play on a third or fourth line.

So yeah, there's definitely some interesting things to watch here for sure.

I mean, be- between the, the prospect pool when Craig Conroy took over as GM, between that being pretty much empty.

I mean, you had Connor Zary and Dustin Wolf and a guy like Matt Coronado.

Outside of that, like, there really wasn't much coming up in the system.

You had all these unhappy veterans.

Like, there's, there's so many things I like about this coach, but really what it's gonna come down to is can your young players take the next step in their careers, especially offensively.

'Cause, you know, he's gonna teach them how to play defense, and that's gonna be fine, but we can't see another 18-goal season from Matt Coronato.

We can't see a guy like Connor Zary going in and out of the lineup and, and all over the map.

You know, we can't see a roller coaster ride of a development year for a guy like Zane Parekh.

They're, they're like-

Uh, you, sir, are a, uh, Connor Zary stan.

We all as-

Anyway, you're a Zary stan.

We all were, and, and so to, to, to frame this, we watched a miserable start to the year.

I think it was the first year of Ryan Huska, and that team was awful and uninspired, and they called up Connor Zary and Marty Pospisil, and it was Kadri and the kids.

And that changed the course of that season.

Where Zary shakes out.

Uh, look, here's the thing about Connor Zary.

Everyone wants it to be good, but you can't have him not earn it.

He's gonna have to outplay people.

It's, you're all one C.

I agree.

So, so, I will grant you guys that, of course, Connor Zary is capable of, to be a, one of four centers on this team.

But my question to you is, if he's had an underwhelming season as a winger, why are you giving him the harder path? Now you're gonna have to play center.
