Congressional Hispanic Caucus

NPR's Claudia Grisales reports House Democrats are kicking off a national tour today with content creators in several swing districts.

The campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is fighting for Latino voters who deserted Democrats in the twenty twenty-four elections and haven't come back.

California Democratic Congresswoman Linda Sánchez, who chairs the group, says they're asking content creators for help to bridge the gap.

We're turning to trusted voices in local communities that have following, giving them information and then allowing them to create content in a way that is organic and authentic.

Am I gonna include who?

Are you gonna include the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus-

Well, I would.

I tell you what.

And I think like Abdul El-Sayed is obviously the most like nationally significant race.

But I mean, Daria Liza unseated, another incumbent, the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Adriana Espaillat.

Um, and, and these are, you know, deep blue districts, but then also, uh, Michigan is, is quote unquote, a purple state or a swing state.

I oppose that framing, but, uh, you know, I'll, I'll, I think that these are, Michigan is never supposed to be a swing state.

... race.

But I mean, Daria Liza unseated another incumbent, the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Adriana Espaillat.

Um, and, and these are, you know, deep blue districts, but then also, uh, Michigan is, is quote-unquote, a purple state or a swing state.

I oppose that framing, but-

One challenge for somebody like Andy Beshear is he is right now the head of the Democrat Governor's Association, which means he has the purse for all the Democrat gubernatorial spending, and he's taking a ton of heat right now for not spending more in Texas.

Democrats, particularly the Hispanic Democrats in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, are saying, "Andy, why aren't you spending $20 million to help Gina Hinojosa in Texas when they're starting to see polls that show it really close?" And he's saying, "Wait, we've got to spend in all these other places like Georgia and things like that." And so you've got, again-

Yeah.

His numbers overall are really good there, which is why Hinojosa is running pretty far behind Tallarico.

And I think that's the reason people like Andy Beshear are saying, "What state would you like me to take money out of for this long shot?" But the Congressional Hispanic Caucus can now point to New York Times polling and say, "No, this is a race, and if we lose, it is your fault," which is something that is always the challenge for leaders.

You'll remember this.

I would also say that it is very demographically based.

So, um, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus just a couple of weeks ago had their conventions here in DC.

Palantir was a sponsor of both.

CHCI, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, actually eradicated them, basically knocked them off as a sponsor because of the community outrage.

Mm-hmm.

The s- the, the Congressional Black Caucus did not.

Oof.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has very publicly returned donations from Palantir.

Yeah.
