Confessional

St. John Vianney understood the priesthood as a radical call to self-sacrifice for souls.

He spent 16 to 18 hours a day in the confessional, reconciling penitents to God before the from faraway lands journeyed to ours drawn not by spectacle but by the palpable sense of heaven that seemed to rest on this worn and fragile priest he ate little slept less and offered his every suffering for the conversion of sinners His reputation for reading souls in confession, and even working miracles, earned him the affectionate title, the Apostle of the Confessional.

But at the heart of his ministry was an unwavering devotion to the Eucharist.

He would often say, The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.
