With most of the members now in prison, Fred Barker and Alvin Karpis were left running the gang.

On July 25, 1932, Barker, Karpis, Duvall, Jesse Doyle, and Earl Christman robbed the Cloud County Bank at Concordia, Kansas, and made off with about $250,000 in cash and bonds.

On August 18, they pulled a second job at the Second National Bank of Beloit, Wisconsin, for $50,000.

Arthur Doc Barker was paroled from his life sentence at Macalester in September 1932 on the condition that he leave Oklahoma forever.

[laughs] Well, let's talk a little bit about your journey, though, from Germany to Concordia, Kansas.

But first, growing up, what kind of activities, uh, athletics, sports, you know, things did you do as a kid? Was it always volleyball? Did you do other things?

So I did pretty much just volleyball, but, like, I did it...

And yeah, I was...

I just don't want to regret that I don't try it, so that's why I'm here.

Well, and, and, and I'm sure it had to be difficult, because you probably had no concept, idea, never had heard of Cloud County, Concordia, Kansas-

No, no. [laughs]

The 2,300-square-foot facility was initiated by a generous lead gift of $250,000 from Cloud County baseball alumnus Zach Hamill.

Hamill previously helped spearhead the Dunning-Hamill Baseball Training Facility that opened in March 2018 on the college's Concordia campus.

Hamill's generosity inspired more than 50 additional alumni, friends, and businesses to make gifts to the space.

Of that, 45 locker sponsorships of $500 each have been supported by friends and alumni athletes, many of whom played baseball at Cloud County.

The Cloud County Community College Board of Trustees and the Cloud County Community College Foundation Board of Directors each contributed $50,000 to the project, while Architect One, Cloud Ceramics, Pure Water of NCK, and U.S. Stone Industries donated services and labor.

Zinger Construction was the general contractor on the project.

The new locker room and players' lounge is located adjacent to the Cloud County Home dugout at the Concordia Sports Complex.

The college has a long-standing partnership with the city of Concordia, using Lee Doyen Field for both practices and games.
