Concho Valley

I'm reasonably certain that it's not like a bunny ranch.

It's a luxury, a private luxury hunting resort located in the Concho Valley of Texas between the towns of Eden and Brady.

Why is this a big deal?

So if you know that 70% of our acres are dry land, and you've heard this dry story that I just painted of the season, you can imagine abandonment is going to be the key factor.

So Texas Boal Weevil Eradication Foundation has mapped in West Texas, and that's from Concho Valley westward roughly, including the far west, has mapped 5.1 million acres that were planted.

That includes about 40 some odd thousand acres in New Mexico, but it's kind of a rounding error there.

On my rough estimates, I think we'll be abandoning at least 90% of our dry land, if not more.

You know, and we built that thing to the point where, you know, we had 150 bears on feed and, you know, and it wasn't – And I realize there's chapters out there that probably have more than that, but we went from 25 or 30 to 150 to some that were extremely, extremely successful.

yeah that's um and you know yeah there's there's there's probably ones that are you know have more but those are like honestly texas panhandle numbers you know you really think about it like that's that's kind of what you'd expect up there but you know not not so much maybe in the concho valley but um yeah cody had a had a great program there and that and that's hard i know from y'all's perspective uh managing not only those families but managing you know all that that can entail, and maybe as much as anything, in the middle of stock show season, going from one to the next, and sheep shows this week, and then you're running back, you might be showing sheep at San Antone, and then you're having to book it back to Show Bearers and Angelo, and then back for wave one, and at some point in there, trying to make sure your guys came home from San Antone on the sheep and the goat sides, and then you sprinkle a few calves in there, and yeah, that can get crazy in a hurry.

Um, okay.

So we talked about it a little bit, you know, we're down here when Corpus, obviously you've been teaching for a gazillion years.

What did your program look like there? I know y'all had, y'all were, Freaking gangster livestock judging.

I mean, you had a great program, especially I think if I remember, like some of those young kids coming up, like y'all were kind of one of the ones that were fixing to make a move.

You know, we talked to Peterson earlier, Concho Valley, Hill Country, West Texas stuff, sheep and goat, heavy stuff.

in that area, I mean, was that fair to say?

Canyon Randall goes out and beats Wichita Falls Memorial, a good Wichita Falls Memorial team, 35-34 in a one-point thriller.

And then finally, the Concho Valley over Super Syntex.

Like you mentioned, Mason goes out to Hamilton, 46-44, and has a spectacular game.

Just all around, not a lot of defense, which that's a whole other thing to talk about with both of those teams.

People don't talk about the case much anymore.

But I think a lot of outsiders fail to realize that the area around Bronte or Concho Valley is generally a no-man's land.

Spotty cell phone service, long winding roads leading to nowhere or to the next small town, huge acreage with nothing on it except thickets of mesquite trees and cacti.
