Con Funk Shun

Sly and the Family Stone.

You got, you got the Con Funk Shun that came out of there.

I think Andre Hawkins-

Yeah

And of course, this week he has completely excelled himself once more.

Let's go back to 1979 for Con Funk Shun and Candy.

[singing] Come on to my driving wheel.

Come on, baby, stay with me, yeah.

Candy, oh, oh, baby

babyI think it's pretty fair to say that rummaging, ravishing Russ's taste is pretty much unparalleled, and, uh, his knowledge also right up there too.

And he, like always, whenever I do Hash and Eggs on a Saturday, selects some fab tunes for me to include, including this, uh, Candy by Con Funk Shun.

They came out of California, originally formed in 1969 as Project Soul, heavily influenced by James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone before developing their own, a really excellent blend of funk, soul, and R&B.

And I heard that, and I went, "I don't care what I'm working on.

I'm like a organic folk artist compared to this," you know? I may be doing Con Funk Shun or Tom Petty or something, but this shit is next level.

I thought it was over.

Yeah.
