Commercial Drive

So I

can remember we're in Vancouver, we're on commercial drive.

Iona and I had gone to grad school together, but we worked in different venues and just stayed friends.

And we're on Commercial Drive having breakfast at what is now Apollo's.

And we're sitting at a table for two.

And Iona says, you know, I just have this idea.

I once was sitting in a bar on Commercial Drive.

Yeah.

And...

Yeah

... to Commercial Drive.

Yeah, and then they get asked how you feel about gay people, and then it becomes a lot more awkward for them.

It gets, yeah.

Eventually, I had a vintage clothing store in Fort Langley and that fell apart with the relationship and the ending of that house.

And so I moved the shop to Commercial Drive.

And then in Commercial Drive, I had the store and we built a stage in the back of the store.

And we had these like epic, legendary, infamous shows called For the Sake of the Song Sundays, where we'd have like 90 to 100 kids like cross-legged, pin drop silent, listening to songwriters at the store.

Wow.

Oh, from the store? I had that shirt.

Oh, geez.

I mean, there's a collagen sweater, not from that store, but it was one of the very first pieces of vintage clothing I ever bought from an antique store when I was like 15 or something and I've held onto that just as a representation of like that era like that that was the first piece that was the first piece that like really i was like oh like oh i'm gonna stop shopping at the mall right and because this thing is way cooler you know and and then that spawned it into like a lifetime of working in that industry um but i got i just picked up yeah this this stone shirt from my buddy kirby at uh fun house off commercial drive which i love i just got a a t-shirt that i sold years ago Um, and always regretted it and, uh, found it recently online and re-bought it for myself because I was like, I, I've always kicked myself for letting it go.
