So Tempted to Title This One Sex Trek...
J
27:27Jason WoodHOST
So it's interesting.
J
27:28Jason WoodHOST
And then this one that I'm about to talk about, It actually was a Comixology original.
J
27:35Jason WoodHOST
Now, I guess Comixology originals have been gone long enough that it might be worth an explanation to some folks, which is kind of weird.
J
27:44Jason WoodHOST
It shows you how long we've been doing this.
J
27:46Jason WoodHOST
Comixology was a company that basically launched to sell digital comics.
J
27:52Jason WoodHOST
It was acquired many years ago now by Amazon.
J
27:56Jason WoodHOST
and was basically Amazon's main conduit for digital comics for years and years and years, and then has subsequently basically been shut down.
J
28:03Jason WoodHOST
I mean, it's all been rolled into Amazon proper, and all the Comixology people and everything are long gone, and they've moved on to do other things.

I've been talking about their journey since they began at Global Comics.
A
15:23Al MegaHOST
You know what I mean? I made Comixology when they were doing websites for Comixos before they became a digital distributor.
A
15:29Al MegaHOST
I went to their office and met my man.
A
15:31Al MegaHOST
So let me tell you, I've been on this journey, man.

J

But they delayed it, and it seems Amazon maybe didn't get the memo.
J
5:04JasonHOST
Amazon Comixology has been, as I've complained multiple times lately, has its glitches.
J
5:10JasonHOST
So at midnight last Wednesday...
J
5:12JasonHOST
Amazon shipped out, you know, in quotes, copies of that issue to everyone who subscribed to it, started selling digital copies of this comic that Marvel did not want them to release yet.
J
5:54JasonHOST
The story I just told, I've kind of reconstructed.
J
5:56JasonHOST
It might not be right in all the details, but I think that's the best, the best, uh, best thing.
J
6:01JasonHOST
And of course, if you didn't subscribe to Uncanny X-Men or buy it through Comixology, but maybe some of you folks out there go to those sketchy corners of the internet to get your comics.
R
6:13RubenHOST
Boo! You're not supposed to do that.

R
19:20Ralph D. ApelHOST
Read it in bed, stuff like that.
R
19:23Ralph D. ApelHOST
And so like I think when comiXology first started, I had it on my phone first.
R
19:28Ralph D. ApelHOST
And so I'd read it panel by panel, just thumbing through on my phone.
R
19:31Ralph D. ApelHOST
And then I got an iPad and just brought over comiXology to there because I can read the books I already downloaded and stuff.
R
19:37Ralph D. ApelHOST
But I stuck with the panel to panel and I was reading this book this morning and I'm just going through it and going through it and going through it.
R
19:46Ralph D. ApelHOST
And I'm like, man, is this like a double issue or something? I'm sure I'm going through a lot of stuff.

It's on a completely different level.
P
14:32Peter MelnickHOST
now and it it's it's funny because like there are you know subscription programs you know such as crunchyroll for anime shonen jump for manga giz for manga and you know marvel and dc do have that they have marvel unlimited they have dc infinite then there's the big magilla of comicsology unlimited where you can be able to you know pull all the different comic companies and it's fascinating because you look at DC and you look at Marvel and you don't throw a comiXology in there because they're the cheapest option but you look at those two companies versus Shonen Jump and Viz next to nothing in cost compared for Marvel options and I feel like Marvel does need to learn and same with DC At that cheaper price point, you'll get so many more people.
P
15:20Peter MelnickHOST
You may be losing out momentarily, but you will get the cost back eventually.
V
15:25VictoriaGUEST
But you have to think, why is it that price? Right now, there's a very big issue with manga artists being overworked and underpaid.

We see this a lot with digital products.

14:49Stephen SchleicherHOST
It could be like comiXology originals.
S

They release their digital versions that you can buy each week that they have.
S

And then at some point down the line, one of the multiple publishers that they work with will release the physical version of the comic book.

J

Amazon screwed me over.
J
46:49JasonHOST
Amazon, first Comixology and then Amazon, used to have this great way of you could filter and sort based on what comics were coming out on any given day by any given publisher.
J
47:00JasonHOST
You could sort by price or alphabetically.
J
47:03JasonHOST
And I would use this every week to figure out what's coming out next week because Amazon has an interest in getting these things right because they actually want your money to buy these things.

But you can see everything that was out.
T
38:58TonyHOST
And then, because Diamond Previews had whatever their problems, and you know some people started distributing elsewhere um because it didn't dc do that for a while so they weren't even listed there uh and then then image kind of was going with a different distributor but then you're doing but whatever but so i couldn't use previous world anymore because they're not they're not updating it they don't like do they even exist they went bankrupt i don't know what what the whole deal is So then what I started doing is using Amazon, using what used to be Comixology.
T
39:33TonyHOST
And I really, I'm so, I'm pissed off when I looked at it this week.
T

They changed their menu.

T

So then I was like, what the heck? Books came out from DC because I don't know.
T
40:59TonyHOST
And even if they're on Comixology, if they're not all listed, then I've got to go through everything to figure out, oh, wait, I did see that last week.
T
41:11TonyHOST
So what I'm doing, and I'm going to give them a shout out because I really like this website, is comicbookroundup.com. And I think I mentioned before, my reviews used to be featured on there.
