Come True

He's a Canadian electronic musician, but he's also a filmmaker.

If you've seen the sci-fi horror film Come True, you've already seen and heard his work, since he directed it and helped create its music.

His albums over the years have mostly lived in a moody synth wave space, dark and dreamy electronic music with a cinematic edge.

He's also a huge Yamaoka fan.

It's got some stunningly eerie images, a sleepy dream-like blue hue, and a wonderful performance by Sarah Dune.

I am talking about the film Come True from 2020.

A teenage runaway takes part in a sleep study that becomes a nightmarish descent into the depths of her mind and a frightening examination of the power of dreams.

You know you can tell me anything, right?

Even if I do have to drag her out of a Goodwill store in order to get that appreciation.

The score introduced me to the dream synth pop stylings of Electric Youth, a duo from Ontario.

And the director of Come True, Anthony Scott Burns, also composed some of the music under the moniker Pilot Priest.

Like I said, hopefully I'll get around to doing a deep dive on this sometime next year.
