Shania Twain releases Come On Over.

By the time Shania releases Come On Over, November 4th, 1997, she's already a star.

But this is the album that puts her from superstar to, well, you're in a league all by yourself now.

The first thing to know about this is that the album didn't just produce hits and go away.

It's the kind of album that I still play when I'm doing the radio show or I'm doing the Friday morning dance party.

Like it still feels good and at times new and fresh.

And on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, come on over in 1997.

This was a generational wave.

Shania Twain's Come On Over from 1997 became the best-selling studio album by a female artist in any genre.

Man, I Feel Like a Woman from 1997 was produced by Robert John Mutt Lang, who'd produced ACDC and Def Leppard, which was straight up pop rock with country inflection.

The song's video had Twain and Leppard print in a top hat, looking more like a rock star than anything traditionally associated with country music.

I mean, she probably should have won more than that, but that's not a bad night The ACMs, April 1996, allowed people to start going, "I don't know, it's risky to.

Man, it's risky not to." And then that was so strong for her that it cleared the lane for Come On Over the next year, and then nobody guessed about anything with Come On Over.

And then radio was like, "Yeah, give it to us." That's another thing.

The awards didn't create demand.

November 4th, J'Nai Twain releases Come On Over, which goes on to sell over 40 million copies worldwide and later became the biggest selling album in country music history and biggest selling album by a female music artist.

November 22nd, InXS lead singer Michael Hutchence is found dead in a Sydney, Australia hotel room, age 37, man.

Crazy.

I mean, she probably should have won more than that, but that's not a bad night.
