First, though, amid backlash, including from members of his own party, Bo French doubled down Monday on a controversial social media post many characterize as racist.

The stories we've heard have been phenomenal.

Uh, you know, we've gone to the play Come From Away.

We've read the book, uh, you know, When The World Came To Town, and you hear all of these stories.

All of it is true.

Yes.

And what [clears throat] you'll get out of Gander is the, uh, yeah, yeah, the, and they're, they're beautiful stories, okay? Of, of the people and what they've done and, and those kinds of things.

And you know, the, uh, I think we were just talking to somebody who said, "Yeah, I've, uh..." They went to see Come From Away in New York, uh, and they were sitting, the, uh, the guy in front of me said, "He kept turning around and looking at me.

He kept turning around and looking at me and looking at me." And, and he said, "I was finally getting a little bit annoyed." And the [laughs] other guy looked at him.

We've got a plane to catch in the morning and a show to get to tonight.

Tonight, as we're recording this, is closing night of Abby's show, Come From Away.

It was September 11th last night.

The show was about September 11th and the planes that got diverted to Gander, Newfoundland.

There's actually been a book written about it.

There's a play that's been written about it called Come From Away.

And Roger Rock is is going to be hosting a production of Come From Away.

It opens on the 25th.

But Mark Standreff is going to be in about an hour, a little over an hour from now.

to talk about Come From Away.

Both two talk about the story that inspires this and the work that's gone into putting this production on in Fresno.

I've seen you.

You were here for an opening in Toronto of Come From Away.

Uh, maybe-

[laughs]

Mayor, I'm from a very small town on the prairies and pretty used to people not knowing anything about my hometown.

They still don't.

But your town now, because of what happened 25 years ago, and I think in part because of the ongoing reminder from that fabulous musical, "Come From Away," everybody in Canada not only knows Gander, we're proud of you.

Yeah, and we, we appreciate that.
