Secretary Doug Burgum says, "We are pleased to announce that after a very long wait, over 125 years, we are preparing to start over the next two-week period the excavation work necessary for the great triumphal arch and military observation deck at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island between Lincoln Memorial and the Arlington National Cemetery.

This will be one of the greatest pieces of American architecture." Nobody wants this.

We don't want triumphal arches at all.

Opponents have argued that the president needs congressional approval to build it.

The arch would sit between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery in at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island.

On social media on Thursday, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said, this will be one of the great pieces of American architecture honoring the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and befitting the most powerful capital in the world.

The president has been heavily involved in the project, showing reporters models of the arch in the Oval Office and posting different renderings on Truth Social.

Apparently they're going to try to get started on this arch.

And for folks who may not understand the geography of this, if you look through the arch there, you're looking at Arlington National Cemetery.

And a lot of veterans are upset about this because this is going to spoil the view of Arlington National Cemetery as you're coming across the Memorial Bridge from the Lincoln Memorial.

The proposed American version would stand 100 feet taller than its French counterpart.

The administration selected Memorial Circle on Columbia Island as the site of the project.

The traffic circle sits on the Potomac River and connects the Lincoln Memorial with Arlington National Cemetery.

Now according to the current plan the structure would have three levels.
