He wasn't born here, he was born in the Soviet Union and his family emigrated here, but he spent most of his childhood here and graduated from Lincoln High School here.

And I even like to think that Rothko's famous Colorfield paintings were inspired in some way by Oregon skies, by Oregon's overcast skies.

And so it's just great that they decided to create this tribute to Rothko by naming this pavilion after him.
