Colocation centre

The beginnings of the co-location industry at the time, Equinix and Exodus, which was its competitor, were just getting started.

The Carrier Hotel was the name, and you still hear some people using it because they're kind of back and sexy again.

These were buildings that were downtown.

They were usually right next to the central office.

They've brought in backup generation and all kinds of cooling equipment.

And some of these places would have up to 50 or 60 different data center or telecom tenants in them.

So they became known as carrier hotels because there was so many different tenants that were sharing the space and making the business go.

I've never heard that before.
